Lake Lewisville Fishing Report - 1/20/12

Dan and Carlos came out to enjoy a beautiful morning for chasing blue cats on Lake Lewisville. The bite started off a bit slow, but picked up later on in the trip. The guys each landed new personal best blue cats. Final count was 16 blue cats in 5 hours of fising and more than enough for dinner at Dan's house. Even though the fishing was a bit slow, the great company, stories, joking and ribbing made up for it. I had a great time fishing with these fellas. All fish were caught on fresh shad with Dead Red Blood Spray from Team Catfish. Here are a few photos from their trip.

Lake Grapevine Fishing Guide Report - 1/21/12

Justin and Candace came all the way out from Hereford to spend a day chasing blue cats with me on Lake Grapevine. After a relaxing night at the Gaylord Texan Resort, they met me at the ramp bright and early in the morning. Actually I called them at 8:00 and woke them up. 30 minutes later they were at the ramp and ready to go. The morning started out with a stiff northerly breeze and a slow to steady bite with some blues and a few channel cats mixed in.

We made another move and located some nice fish on the fish finder. The bite started quickly and several fish made it into the box before I could get all of the rods into the water. The box fish suddenly quit biting and I soon marked several big fish on the fish finder. It was just a matter of time before something exciting was about to happen. One of the front began to go down, but Justin got on it a bit too quick and fish never had a chance to take the bait all the way. Within seconds of missing that fish, the 1/2 Ton rod next door took a sharp-deep bend, slapped the water and the reel began to sing! FISH ON!!! After several long runs and some big head shakes, the big fish finally came to the surface for a good look. Once it saw the boat, the fight was back on and line began going the other direction again. Finally Justin was able to put a whoopin' on the fish and bring it to the net. This was the biggest fish Justin has ever caught. It weighed just over 38 lbs on my scale and was released after several photos. He was quite proud of his slimed up jacket and kept threatenig to wear it to dinner that night.

He wasn't the only one to get slimed on this trip. At the next stop, Candace had a rod in the back of the boat take a deep bend and it was "game on"! Her fished topped out at 18 lbs and another personal best for the day. They wrapped up the trip at 4:00 catching 18 blues up to 38 lbs. and took home 2 gallon bags stuffed full of fresh catfish fillets for a big family fish fry. Once again, fresh gizzard shad with Dead Red Blood Spray was the bait of choice. Here are a few photos from their trip.

Lake Lewisville Catfish Guide Report - 1/24/12

Shane and Ron put the "Catfish Smackdown" on some of those Lake Lewisville blue cats Tuesday morning. Their 5 hour trip brought 36 fish to the boat including a couple of trophy class fish. They brought over 100 lbs. of fish back to the cleaning table and took home 3 gallon bags of fillets. It's not too early to plan your Spring Break fishing trips as well. Call, PM or email me for more information.

Lake Lewisville Fishing Guide Report - 1/28

No photos and not much to report on Saturday's trip. The much needed rain, brought the lake level up quite a bit. It also scatterd the fish and sent many up shallow to play with the duck hunters. We had quite a few missed fish and short strikes today. Customers only managed to put 4 blues and 1 channel cat in the box.

Lake Lewisville Fishing Guide Report - 1/29 AM Trip

Well the winds shifted back out of the south and the bite was a bit better than the previous day. The morning trip produced a mixed bag of blue and channel cats. Fish were caught anywhere from 3 feet deep down to 45 feet deep. Final count was about a dozen fish including 2 new personal best blues for 2 lucky anglers.

Lake Lewisville Fishing Guide Report - 1/29 PM Trip

Mike, Tabitha and Dan came out to fish the afternoon shift with me. The steady south winds made fishing conditions nice, but the bite never really took off. Lots of dropped baits and short strikes lead to missed fish again. No big fish caught, but the crew still had a good time and caught some nice eating size blues. Fresh shad with Dead Red was the bait of choice. One of those blue cats gave Tabitha a big slimey kiss on the cheek. Maybe Mike can post a photo of that one.

Thank you Bobby. We had a great time fishing with you. It was great to have 3 generations on the boat at the same time. Memories for a lifetime.

When we left the first spot Tabby asked me "do I really a have a red splotch on my face? could I be allergic to fish, I really like fish" That was greatness. Thanks again for the good time.

Anyone on the fence about taking a trip with Bobby should just go. Super nice guy and works very hard to take care of his customers.

Grapevine Catfishing Report - 2/2/12

Donnie and his son came out on a half-day instructional trip with me on Grapevine. Donnie fished me back in the spring and learned a bit on drifting and fishing shallow water. The plan for this trip was to focus our efforts on locating and catching blues on deep-water structure during winter.

Bait was easy to catch and I quickly had a gallon bag filled with a nice mix of threadfins and decent sized gizzard shad. The recent rains and warmer weather moved the fish off of their winter time locations and scattered them all over the lake. We had no problem locating fish, but had a hard time getting them to bite. The 1,000 cfs of water being released from the spillway didn't help matters much either. The guys finished the trip catching 3 blues and 5 channel cats. Donnie had big fish of the day with a nice 20 pounder. Fresh shad with Dead Red was my go-to bait.

Just a warning. There are LOTS of floating and partially submerged logs in the open water right now. Be extremely careful running out there during the day and especially at night. Here are a couple of pics from today's trip.

High-water ramp at Katie's Woods (normal ramp is closed):

Lake Lewisville Fishing Guide Report - 2/10/12

Greg, Gary and Michelle joined me Friday morning for a half-day blue cat trip on Lake Lewisville. The high pressure system, post front conditions and strong north winds had the fish shut down. The crew hung in there and still managed to catch some nice eating size fish during their trip. Greg landed the big fish of the day with a nice blue that weighed in right at 9 lbs. Lots of laughing, joking and kidding around between bites with this crew. NEVER a dull moment. Fresh shad with Dead Red Blood Spray from Team Catfish was the bait of choice.

Saturday's trip was rescheduled due to unsafe weather conditions. It was pretty darn cold too so no complaints on this end.

Lake Lewisville Catfish Guide Report - 2/12/12
Angel, Alex and Monty fished a full day with me on Sunday. The air was a bit brisk and the wind chill in the 20's. The fish were scattered and really not wanting to bite very well. Lots of short strikes resulting in missed fish. We put out some big baits in hopes of hooking in to some bigger fish, but never had a good hit. Switched to some smaller baits in order to put some fish in the box. Still had a good time and the guys caught some nice eating size fish. Fresh gizzard shad fillets with Dead Red Blood Spray was the best bait today.

Lake Lewisville Fishing Guide Report - 2/16/21

Rob came out yesterday morning for a half-day trip on Lewisville. Made bait in about 15 minutes and easily filled a gallon bag with some nice gizzard shad and a few threadfins mixed in. Winds kicked up a bit early in the morning and kept us off the main lake. Switched to plan B and quickly located some fish and bait on the end of a point. Set up and only got one bite. Moved to the end of a sharp ledge and where some birds were working and located another school of fish. Missed some short bites and put several blues in the box. Then Rob had a really nice pull-down and it was "game on"! Moments later, his new personal best was coming into the boat. He told me a story early in the trip about him always catching crappie no matter what species he's fishing for. We'll catch crappie from time to time when fishing with fresh shad, but with the size of baits we were using, I never saw it coming. Sure enough, he had a steady light bite on a gizzard head and realed in a really nice black crappie. The fish were in no way knocking the doors down to jump in the boat, but he caught some nice fish none the less. Ended up with a gallon bag of fresh catfish for dinner with the family. Here are some photos from his trip.

Lake Lewisville Catfishing Guide Report - 2/19/12

Glen brought his sons Kevin and Casey out on Sunday for a full day of blue catfishing on Lake Lewisville. The weather was just about perfect and the fish were biting! We got right on to a steady bite from the beginning and kept it up all day long. Glen had big fish honors today with a nice blue that weighed just over 15 lbs. The crew finished up the trip putting 37 eating size blue cats in the box in just 8 hours. Fresh shad with Dead Red Blood Spray from Team Catfish was the bait of choice.

Lake Lewisville Party Boat / Shared Catfishing Trip - 2/20/12

Jay, Jason, Bob and Rob booked one of my President's Day 4 hour shared/party boat trips on Lake Lewisville. Fist stop put a couple of channel cats in the box quickly and the bite died off. Then Jason had a big fish take him straight under and out the other side the boat. Somehow it managed to pull the hook and slip away before showing itself. Second setup put a couple of eating size blues in the boat. Then Jason had another good hit and the fight was on. We had a nice suprise on the other end with a 7 lb flathead. This fish gave us what we we thought was a pretty nice catfish slam with all three species boated in short order. The winds picked up about half-way through the trip and we went looking for cover. We moved to some semi-protected water and got right back on some fish. We joked around for a bit and thought it would be pretty cool to swing for the fence with a catfish grand slam by catching a bullhead. Wouldn't you know it. About 30 minutes later, Jay got a bite and reeled in a yellow bullhead. I think this makes only the third bullhead we've ever caught out of Lewisville. And first time ever in my boat to land 4 different species of catfish in the same trip. Jason landed a nice bass. Bob and Rob followed up with several nice blues to wrap up the trip. Due to the high winds, I cancelled the afternoon trip. Fresh shad with Dead Red was the bait of choice once again. Here are some pictures from their trip.

Lake Lewisville Fishing Report - 2/22/12

Sam enjoyed a full day of chasing some big blue cats with me on Lewisville Wednesday. Weather was great and the fishing was even better. We got off to a great start landing several nice blues at the first spot. The bite slowed down a bit and we went looking for more. Second spot was a bust with only 1 sandbass landed. The third and forth setups worked like a charm. Winds picked up a bit and the fish turned on! He landed several more trophy fish and steadily put some nice eating size blue cats in the box. Unfortunately Erik couldn't make it down this year. He missed out on another great trip. Fresh shad with Dead Red Blood Spray put the fish in the boat and lots of big smiles on Sam's face!

Lake Lewisville Fishing Guide Report - 2/23/12

Jay and his son Jack joined me Thursday morning for a half-day guided blue cat trip on Lake Lewisville. The bite was a bit slow at times, but they still caught some nice fish including 4 blues between 10 and 17 lbs and a handfull of box fish. Jack also caught a really nice gar that was almost 5 feet long. Unfortunately it cut the leader at boatside while I was trying to get the fish grips on it. Fresh shad with Dead Red Blood spray was the bait of choice. Lots of fun and memories for this father/son team that will last a lifetime!

Lake Lewisville Blue Catfish Report - 2/26/12

Cody brought his dad and future brother-in-law Billy out for a morning of blue catfishing on Lake Lewisville Sunday morning. We got on a pretty good bite at the first spot with some nice eating size blues. Billy also hooked into a trophy class fish. This one weighed just over 16 lbs and was released after a couple of quick photos. The winds picked up and the guys wanted to fish some calmer water.

We moved to a semi-protected pocket and got all set up. They quickly picked up another nice blue and missed several short bite before all heck broke loose. Billy had a rod go down hard, drag screamed and we watched the wake of a big fish heading directly away from the boat. After several minutes of splashing muddy water, clearing rods and pulling the fish off of the anchor rope we finally got it in the net. The big blue weighed just over 38 lbs, Billy just happend to catch his new personal best on his first wedding anniversary. The fish was quickly released after a few photos and measuring. The trophy blue cat will earn Billy a "Big Fish" award from Texas Parks and Wildlife. Fresh shad with Dead Red Blood Spray from Team Catfish. Here are a few photos from their trip.

Lake Lewisville Fishing Guide Report - 2/27/12

Frank, Tim and John came out again to spend a morning chasing blue cats with me on Lake Lewisville. The bite started out a bit slow at the first stop. Made a short move and found some hungry fish. The guys took turns on a steady bite and started filling the box with some nice eating size blue cats. That spot lasted for for about 2-1/2 hours before the fish moved on or we caught all of the active fish from that area. We relocated to a different area as the wind started to pick up and got right back on the fish. Tim got caught with his pants down when a fish hit. I don't think I can post a photo of him reeling in or holding that fish. Never a dull moment with these fellas in the boat. The guys finished up with 22 nice blues and a couple of sandbass in 5 hours to show for their efforts. Fresh Shad with Dead Red Blood Spray from Team Catfish helped fill the freezer once again.

Hello Bobby,
The Donny in the photo looks like a guy I used to go dove hunting with in south Texas. Is it Donny Cowart(not sure of the spelling)? If it is please give me his phone number.
I have a jon boat and am new to cat fishing. I fish out of Westlake. What would you charge to give me some instruction on drift fishing, anchoring, wind socks and other issues that I am not very good at. Let me know.
Thanks,
Tim
