Hi Guys, More hot news today from Navionics! This data is available as a free download on our web store for HotMaps Premium and Platinum products purchased after Oct 1, 2010. We have made updates live for Alan Henry Reservoir Cedar Creek Reservoir Lake Livingston Lake Ray Roberts Sam Rayburn Reservoir These updates include new shorelines, underwater structures, creeks and feeder streams, enhanced accuracy, and other data additions! GREAT STUFF-yours free! (for those of you that lament the loss of the old underwater data, we have proof that our new data is more inclusive and FAR more accurate than the old FHS data. Now you don't need to look for an '08 chart, the new data is far better) This is FREE at the Navionics web store! (Yes, we are aware that some are having, or had, difficulties with the Fork data release downloads. We have made some improvements to the proccess since then and problems should be far fewer The process will continue to improve, and the feedback from the customers who were having problems was VERY helpful! The content is worth the effort, so dont give up if your pc has issues, we will work with you to resolve them!) MORE TX UPDARES ARE COMING! Here are some screen grabs of the new data that is live right now-before and after Ray Roberts [img:center] [/img] Livingston [img:center] [/img] Cedar Creek [img:center] [/img] Alan Henry [img:center] [/img] Sam Rayburn [img:center] [/img] Remember, as good as this new data is, we aren't done yet! Thanks to everyone on TFF for your support! We are thrilled to provide new mapping updates for the TX angler!

What about the blank areas on Fork. I was told by a gentleman at BPS in Garland that there is a plan for it to be filled in.
True or False
If true......timeline?
I hate to buy the new Hoptmaps Premium only to have it take more than 12 months and then I would not be able to update it.

What's the data look like for Gibbons Creek Reservoir? Unfortunately, that's about the only place I get to fish. So I'd like to know if this is worth it for me to purchase, as I already have Insight on my HDS unit.

Sorry Jeff, but FINALLY. I never understood why ya'll took all that data away from us with the release of the HD maps. Don't get me wrong I love the HD stuff, but the combo is the bee's knees.

I thought a lot of him and his advice.....but he was leery to tell me to buy one and expect an update(for the blank area in FORK) within 12 months!!!!

Its the best data currently available. As we get new info, the lake gets updated. I have no short term knowledge about any updates to Gibbons Creek, but I will make sure the product guys know that you are asking.

Why do you assume it was us and not the provider of the data? Navionics has a policy of NEVER removing data from a chart unless we have no choice. I am very pleased to announce that the newest data is far superior to the information that as removed a few years back. It took a while, but it got done. Kudos to our product team!

Jeff just to clear things up. I have the 07 or 08 version so it looks like this new version has as much if not more detail than the one I have. Is that correct? The roads and creeks on my version are not entirely accurate so I have used other sources to help me with this. How is the accuracy of the new version? take care.

randy Rock solid and tested in the field. As we used to say in the high end audio business, it's "reference quality", which simply means the version which all others are compared to. Truthfully, we were fully aware that we had to exceed the quality of the previous data to sell new maps. I watched the process. Navionics did it.

Can you explain the difference between the platinum and the premium 2011s? (besides the 3d mapping)

Baylorbassguy, The difference between Premium and Platinum is the 3d mapping feature, top down satellite images as well as panoramic photos in some areas. The mapping is the same.
Hunter, The updates will most likely not be on a chart bought on the shelf today. This info was just released for update and it will take awhile for it to get into the channel, however the chart you buy today can be updated as soon as you get in home to a computer.
Evan, I understand that the blank areas in Fork and a few other lakes will be addressed on the next release. From what I hear it is in quality assurance now and it will be out soon.

Jeff, why is the sky blue? And, why do they call it a driveway when you park on it and a parkway when you drive on it?

Hey Jeff.....how about a Texas Fishing Forum discount for a limited time or for good???? I'd like to upgrade but the price is a little steep. As for me and I'm sure alot of other guys some extra incentive would push me into the buyer column. So how about it??

Ronnie they are better as long as you dont fish creeks or anything below 20 feet. The above pictures are at a depth of 24 -45 feet. Indian Creek 2011

I have put in my Navionics Platinum card I purchased in Feb 2011. I have tried to update but it gives the following message- Your card is write protected. Please disable write protection and reinsert card. I have gone through the properties on the SD slot when the card is in it and have not seen that option. Can you tell me how to do that...THanks

Thanks Dan..had someone PM me that one. I tried that as well. Got a different message stating it could not transfer ownership. I have put in a call to Navionics. Customer support made it sound like a known issue at told me that would be back in touch with by Monday via email...hopefully with a resolution.

My premium south purchased 12/31/10 will not update. A pop up says "received response status 404 ... This download will not work." I sent an email to Navionics about the problem. Any help would be appreciated.

Any help would be appreciated. Got the same message here, tried three laptops and three different card readers (built in and external) with the same result. I bought my card last fall from Cabelas. Also sent a message to technical service. Hopefully its an easy fix.

Wow those pictures are concerning. What is concerning is that a company would keep putting out the same priced product without all the additional data. If it wasnt for places like this, most wouldnt even know that it had been removed.

Navionics tech sent me an email about not being able to download the update and said try again. They did something on there end. Sure enough my chip downloaded successfully. I checked the chip in Simulator mode on unit, appears normal, and has update for Ray Roberts lake.

Still no reply from Navionics - even sent a second email yesterday. Anyone else having the same problem that the website won't recognize your card?

For the past 3 or 4 days I cannot download the update online. It gets stuck at 0 downloaded. I've tried two different internet connections and 3 computers so I know it isn't me. Both of my cards failed downloading properly. One I left to run overnight and the other I left running for close to 8 hours. Each card was being updated from two different computers. The response from tech support has been horrible. I expect better customer service and tech support when I spend over $300 on two cards.

Ronnie they are better as long as you dont fish creeks or anything below 20 feet. The above pictures are at a depth of 24 -45 feet. Indian Creek 2011 Wow. That's an eye opener. With Jeff responding to the other Navionics thread, I was hoping he could address this topic, as he may have missed it before it dropped off to the 8th page. I'm really on the fence about buying the new Platinum South chip, but stuff like this has me concerned that I won't be happy with it.

I talked to the Navionics guys at The skeeter owners tournament. I found out that they no longer upgrade. You have to buy a whole new card. When I bought my Platinum card in 2009, The box said it had 1' contours on Rayburn Toledo and Fork. When I started using it, I found that most of the areas where I fish had this missing.
It irks me that I have to buy a whole new card To get something that I thought I already had When I bought the Card the first time. They really need to re-think their upgrade policy.
It seems like they are saying "yeah we missed some stuff when you bought yours, but now you can buy it again and we have that problem fixed. They should just Upgrade you like they used to. I am thinking about buying something else for 50 bucks that will take care of the gap and add a whole lot more data such as cemetaries, bridges, boats, cars, houses, the REAL creek chanels, etc.

I am thinking about buying something else for 50 bucks that will take care of the gap and add a whole lot more data such as cemetaries, bridges, boats, cars, houses, the REAL creek chanels, etc. First of all, I dont know what you mean by "upgrade like they used to"? You still had to buy a new chart with the old program, but that is all you got-no updates. The new program requires you to buy a chart too, but you get a year of free updates (which have been, and will be, HUGE for TX this year). You also get a free PC lake program that is very cool ($30 value-free). Changes to maps isn't a question of "missing some stuff" and adding it back in later, its a process that uses the best AVAILABLE data, either as a new layer or part of an exisiting layer. Yes, this does change the way the map looks, but, in general, the new product is far better for many reasons. If I showed you a map of Fork we sold 7 years ago for $100 (for just one lake) vs. the product we sell now for 100 (which includes 1000s of additional lakes), you would be blown away. These mappping products are practically free compared to what the cost just a few years ago, and there is no comparing the accuracy, features, or content. We always release the best data we have and are always trying to find ways to use data in different ways. The single back step we had in TX was the loss of FHS data 4 years ago. Now, we have added the same data back in, but it is FAR more accurate than the FHS stuff (confirmed in the field), and there is more of it. I think we deserve some credit, if you look back on TFF 5 or more years, you will see that we built the product using the DIRECT input from the TX fisherman. We were the first to survey TX lakes and even offer these new maps with 1' detail that many now take for granted. AND we are still trying to make them better! Sometimes I don't get what some of you want us to do. Should we NOT ever improve the product? Because it seems like everytime we do, somebody says "no fair". Rayburn Junkie, do you feel the map you own today isn't worth what you paid? Would you rather have your $$ back and not have a navionics map of the lake (yes-even missing some 1' contours in timber areas)? I would argue that, even with its lack of data in some areas, that the Navionics map of TB is considered to be the BEST map that exists of the lake. And now we are improving it because we have new data and technology available. I just don't get why so many of you think we are this huge "evil greedy corporate monster". We are a very small company made up of a few passionate people that want to make, and sell, the worlds greatest mapping products. we aren't always perfect, but we try very hard to be best, and I think we have done a VERY good job at this in the TX market.

Yeah, when is the last time shimano let you upgrade to the new curado cause yours was 3 years old..? I really appreciate the work that is being done. I have the mobile app and am excited every time I see it has an update available. Once the fork update is ready I will get the updated chip for the TR-22

Ronnie they are better as long as you dont fish creeks or anything below 20 feet. The above pictures are at a depth of 24 -45 feet. Indian Creek 2011 OK, here is what I found out. The data you show in the "before" picture is not from a product that is eligible for updates-it is from an old chart we havent sold in years. So the notion that you "loose" that data when you update a new chart is misleading/wrong because that map version is NOT on any current charts and hasn't been for years. There are a few scheduled releases for Ray Roberts. The first one (a few weeks ago) included reworked shorelines and added the underwater structure back in. There is another update coming soon that addresses and improves the lake contours and bathymetry. This next update we will fill in the "blanks" shown in the "after" screen shots provided. In fact, they should be much more complete and accurate than what you see in the "before" photo. Again, NOBODY WILL LOOSE THE INFO IN THE "BEFORE" PICTURE BY UPDATING!!! This information is not available on ANY product that can be updated-it is discontinued and has been for years. For sake of clarity, the next reply will show the EXACT differences anyone will see when updating a current chart for this area of ray Roberts.

Shallow area before Shallow area after South of area above-before South of area above-after Notice shoreline improvements (MUCH more accurate), new undewater structures, and new creek beds. Again, we are working with some new sources and technology that should add more shallow water detail for these creek areas and others on the lake. Thats the next update!

For what it's worth, I dont think there's any other company that can compare to Navionics when it comes to mapping. Im almost shocked that a company representative would come on here and deal with the beating that TFF'ers can give. Kudo's to you Jeff, though I feel you are a glutton for punishment. If you knew me or fished with me, you would get it We are all HARD CORE when it comes to lake maps-a few negative comments aren't going to make us go away! Thanks for the compliment!

I just upgraded my 2010 premium chip, purchased in October 2010. The free PC app is great.
Some of the errors ya'll are getting are due to the fact that your card reader is not compatible with the newer card. I have Navplanner, and the card reader that came with it did not work. Fortunatly I have a newer card reader, and it worked.
Good Luck!!!!

So you still have massive areas that don't have anything but blue water? That's the beef that a lot of us have with the newer chips. It's the reason I still have an 06 and an 08 map. It's worthless when the entire upper end of a lake is just blank.....
On lakes like Ray Roberts where there are huge areas that are blank. I put in my old chip because even if it isn't dead on accurate for the tank dam it doesn't matter with today's sidescan. Just get me near it and I'll find it. Then I put my new chip back in for the south end of the lake. Same thin on Lavon and some areas of Hubbard too. Really I'm sure any lake with extensive shallow timber has this issue.
I don't understand why you can't just combine that old data with the new map. It would be far better than just blank.
I appreciate you at least coming on here and trying to explain and feel bad you are taking a beating. But that question has eluded me for years and I still haven't received a good answer.

BINGO !!!!! Jeff, I'll tell you what bothers me about Navionics. I had 2 08' chips. I had bought them when I upgraded from the 07' chips. When the 09' chips came out, ya'll advertise that you have new "HD" lakes on the chip, etc, etc, etc....... so the inclination is to buy the new chip. So I get a trade in envelope, but 2 new 09' chips and send my 08' chips in (Dumbest move EVER) for my rebate. Imagine my surprise when I go to some places on Toledo Bend and see that all I get on the new "improved" 09' chip that just cost me $100 is THE COLOR BLUE. No contour lines. No road beds. Nothing, just BLUE. None of this was anounced to the buying public. No mention that you had lost access to the FHS data and that the new 09' chips would be missing some data that the 08' chips had on them. Zero, zip, nada. You think that's good business ???????????? I don't. I will tell you this much. I felt mislead about the situation. Navionics should have told us that their would be some data missing. That would have been the right thing to do. Instead, you leave it to the buying public, the dumb ones like me who bought the 09' chips as soon as they were available, to be the guinea pigs and let everyone else know that the new 09' chips were missing data. Not good my man. Not good at all.

I just bought the premium chip today and I can't get the update to complete. It will get to about 90% and just spin from there. I've tried several troubleshooting options suggested here to no avail. I've been trying for over 5 hours. The file is less then a gig. I could have downloaded The Godfather trilogy twice by now...and watched the first one...
