es you can connect any two Ethernet Compatible Models together. But the only way to share sonar data is they must be compatible technology. For Example an 858ci HD DI and a 998c HD cannot share transducer data but can share GPS Data, GPS REceiver, Temperature Probes, Compatible Ethernet Accessories like iPilot Link can be shared.

so if this is the case, interlinking them or etherneting two units of different technology would not let you share sonar data .. correct??

Just got my HB 589 in from Shut-up-and-fish and couldn't be happier. Great price!! One question; Should I register the unit and then download any newer software version or will it come with the latest software already on it?

Just got my HB 589 in from Shut-up-and-fish and couldn't be happier. Great price!! One question; Should I register the unit and then download any newer software version or will it come with the latest software already on it? You didn't get a 589 since there is no such model. Did you get a 598ci SI Combo? You don't know how long that unit was in a distributer or dealer's stock from the day it was made. A software update can be released any time. You can check what the unit has with the software than will be in your account. READ the manual. You should register the unit which creates an account that Humminbird puts software updates and other software in.

Hey i have a question, is there any type of screen treatment to keep water spots off the screens of my 998 and 1198? letting a paper towel soaked with a vinager based cleaner does work but its getting to be a pain in the rear!

I have a nushield on both 1198s and love them. They do create a reflection that some people don't like, but I think that they make the colors pop on the display.

has anyone transported thier boat with the humminbird white protective covers on the unit? wondering if they will stay on, or fly off.

That stuff is hard on plastic, rubber and many other materials.
