Yes, in Simulator you can use all the settings and functions that are used in normal operating mode except you won't see a temp readout and you cannot choose which location to show the temp. unless you have the transducer connected or a aux temp sensor connected. I use my units in my den a lot for software updates, waypoint management, practicing with settings, and as a reference for answering questions like this. Would you (or anyone else) be willing to share how you are setup to run your unit in your house? Do you just lug a battery in? Did you rig up a DC adapter? I've seen references on other forums to wiring up a cigarette connection and using a portable power pack or an AC to DC converter with a cigarette plug. Would be curious to hear what everyone has done, and specific links to products if you have them.

I use a AC/DC Convertor and hook to a power cable. Radio Shack has alot of different AC/DC Convertors I use a 3 Amp Max to operate mine. Be careful because you don't want to overpower and damage your electronics.

From Radio Shack: The plug has a built in fuse holder. Change it to 3A.

I am having issues with my 1197 powering off at high speeds. I saw in the manual that it says: "If the power output of your boats engine is unregulated, the control head may be protecting itself using its over-voltage protection feature. Make sure the input voltage does not exceed 20 volts"
This sounds like it is my problem, but how do I check/control this so that it doesnt power off. Surely its ok to have it powered on while running, right?
Thanks

You check it by setting one of the digital displays to Voltage and watch it. If the voltage is not high, a slight "adjustment" of the power cord plug pins may fix it IF your boat wiring is adequate.

I have a Lowrance NMEA 2000 system. Is it compatible with the Humminbird units? I have a 2 year old 788ci pre HD and DI. Guess I bought it too soon! Thanks Mike

To Connect to NEMA 2000 you will need Ethernet Compatible Model. The connector is not released yet but should be coming very soon to connect to all NEMA 2000 Networks and display information on the graph.

Wirebender, I have a couple of 1198c SI units also, but do not have them interconnected (don't need that feature). Here is the Ethernet manual: http://store.humminbird.com/media/document/Ethernet_Manual.pdf

First Name Each Unit - I call my Bow and COnsole then select the transducer and GPS receiver connected to each unit. You can select the same temp probe in each unit or I like to use the console transducer temp probe that way all readings are from the same temp probe and the one in the water the most. Then select share GPS Data. That's all you need to do.
