I think it's a good burger, but doesn't beat Whatburger. I would consider it 2nd place in the fast food wars.
Kenny's and Jakes are a totally different catagory.

your on the money nitro. i work in allen, and we all tried it. i can think of at least 20 burgers in dallas alone that i would eat first. i googled the "secret menu" it is nothing more than add ons like japs, chili etc. it's a cali thing, i would suspect most who like it tried it there. BOOMER SOONER!

I flat don't get it. I'm not a homer as I am a crimson and cream SOONER, BUT I went to Cabela's in Allen yesterday and as I was leaving stopped in to In N Out, wait inside was about 10 minutes. Got the double double. I don't get it!! It's just a burger, nothing special. Whataburger, Kenny's, Jake's, shoot, Jack in the Box beats those things. Am I a homer?? Anyone else not get it?? I get it. Its definitely a Cali thing. Why do think there is no Whataburgers in California? If you like In N Out, go back to Cali. Whataburger rules Texas!

animal style and all the rest of it protein style etc, are nothing but BS gimmicks. Hell you mean they can't make a burger unless you know the secret menu? n and Out is okay. It's not Whataburger and it's not 5 Guys. It's not bad but it's no big deal. Any place that has to have some secret menu that any one can know if they want seems pretty damned silly to me.

In N Out was a serious let down and the fries were even worse! I couldn't manage to finish them... and I LOVE french fries. They tasted like newspaper.

In and Out is like a lot of things. When you can't get it, you remember it better than it ever was. Now that it is available on the local street corner, it has been exposed for what it is, mediocre burgers and fries.
Underwhelming to say the least.

Whataburger spanks In & Out.. I have only had In & Out one time when I was in Cali, from what I remember there wasn't even any vegtables on it?? Taco Bell better watch out though if Chronic Taco ever opens up around here, that place is the bomb!

Never been there...will probably try it once when they get to Hurst, otherwise, there are a LOT of much better Mom N' Pop places around...support them instead of the chain places (except maybe Whataburger).

I suspect I will enjoy it, by fast food standards. That is, a decent, quickly slapped together burger that can be very tasty, but won't ever hold up to a true burger joint. But no fast food burger ever will, so that's not exactly a knock against In N Out, or Whataburger.

In And Out blows! I was in So Cal several years ago starving because I hadn't eaten in almost 10 hrs. and the closest place I could park my load was at an I and O. As I was looking at the menu, a family came in and I told them to go ahead as I didn't know what I wanted. The guy asked where I was from and I told him Texas and asked what was good there. He told me what to order and went on about his way, telling me: "you can't get food like this in Texas!". I got about 3\4 of the burger down, tossed the fries, went across the street and got a pre-fab sandwich from the convenience store then headed back home. I'll eat McDonalds, JITB, or BK before I'd spend another dime with these jokers.

So far, In and Out has been better at making traffic problems in Dallas than burgers. As people figure them out they will probably fade away. Mediocre food at a cheap price is still mediocre food.

I tried In-N-Out the other day, after some beers, it was nearby, and it was cheap.
Burger was alright by Fast Food standards, nothing life changing.
But here's what blew my mind, and will likely prevent me from going back.
Me: "I'd also like Bacon, and Jalapenos on that burger, please." InNOut: "We don't have bacon, or jalapenos."
Let me repeat that. This is a Burger chain...opening in Texas... That does NOT have Bacon? OR Jalapenos?
That knocked a LOT of points off their score right there, lol, and knocked a lot of potential enjoyment out of that burger I tried.

Finally went by In-N-Out to see what all the fuss was about. Was fairly impressed with the burger for a fast food place. Two thin patties with very fresh vegetables, and their special dressing was decent.
The fries were another story. They had absolutely no flavor. Seriously, it was like eating french fries made out of some strange tasteless material - and no, catsup and salt didn't help a bit. We finished our burgers and left 90% of our fries - looking around the place I noticed there were several other diners leaving most of their fries on the tray too. Doubt we'll be back.

The only difference between an in & out and any other of the dozens of burgers out there is that they put Lowery's seasoning salt "another Cali thing" on thier burgers. No big deal.
Now if u want a great burger in Cali....go to Tommy's!

I grew up on those, thats the real cali burger there. 100% of what they serve is covered in the best Chilli you have ever had. Well you are blessed to have tried this tasty burger! The chilli cheese fries are awesome too. If any of you are in so. cal or Vegas for that matter, make it a point to visit. The ones in vegas are off the strip, but worth the drive into the vegas suburbs. Fatburger, another cali burger place is better than In and Out. Fat Burger can be had in Vegas. Of the three big cali burger places (Tommy's, In&Out, Fat Burger) DFW got the weakest one. However In and out is better than What-A- Burger for the hamburger. Not the fries, in and outs fries suck. Always have.

It's not a burger war, it's not a state pride thing, it's just the facts. Whataburger is a tasty burger. Double Double/w cheese animal style (it has to be animal style) is a tasty burger. Go for whatever you're hungry for or near by at the time. This debate is about the same as trying to determine if a chicken can actually be called a bird because it is shtty at flying.....

Whataburger is a tasty burger. Double Double/w cheese animal style (it has to be animal style) is a tasty burger. I tried the Double Double animal style. It was pretty good, by fast food standards. But honestly, would have been much, much better with bacon and jalapenos. Still blown away, in a bad way, that the vaunted In-N-Out completely fails to offer either of those burger staples.

Yeah, it was a good burger by fast food standards...but no bacon or jalapenos? Pass.

the one in Rockwall is almost near completion... i may try one at some point, but I am not gonna break my neck trying to get one... hamburger is still a chitty piece of meat, imo. comparable to hotdogs.

Put one in Memphis and save me alot of driving, Whataburger that is I used to eat at a place in Memphis called Dyer's. I heard it moved to Beale, but when I went it was in an old building with the counter in the middle. Unique burger, to say the least.

Tried In N Out the other day. Wife and I drove up 121 from west of GV just to sample what everyones talking about.
Burger-(double/double) was just another burger.
Fries- had no flavor and some strange texture once you crunched into it kinda like half dried wall board mud. If you have to coat fries with that animal style stuff to make em taste good, then you don't no chit about fries. How the heck can anyone slice potatoes, fry em, and taste like carp is amazing to me. Bagged ore-ida at home right outta the wesson oil is 100% better (and no animal style needed).
I will NOT be going back, it SUCKED!!!
Whataburger much better and I don't have to pay 121 tolls!!!

the general consensus seems to be In N Out is waaay over-rated. Guess Cali's dont know what a good burger is> someone could make a fortune out there by opening up a BBQ shop!

Sorry guys, but I'm a firm believer that if you want the best burger around, learn how to season and make your own patties and place on the good ol charcoal grill (with a little mesquite wood for added flavor)!! Don't overcook and don't mash on them with the spatula (just let them cook!!).
Hmmmm, guess what I just talked myself into for dinner this evening...

Growing up my parents owned a resaurant. People came fom all over for our burgers and buttermilk onion rings. Juicy's in Tyler reminds me of our old place. Good burgers and great onion rings. The pot of beans is just icing on the cake.
For a FooFoo burger nothing beats the Love Shack in Ft Worth. The Dirty Love burger is special.

Transplanted Texan here ... what is "animal style"?

But, you do have to know the program. http://www.in-n-out.com/secretmenu.asp
