Alright boys. We know best barbecue, best burgers, best mexican, but another big one I crave on long road trips is fried chicken.
So. Where's the best fried chicken in the state?

I crave Bill Millers enough as is... Are there no mom and pop chicken joints left? No gas station "Allsup's burritos" type secrets?

Jim's Crispy Fried Chicken in Mexia. The fried yadbird is awesome, plus it's where Anna Nicole Smith used to work, so there's a bit of nostalgia to go along with the great food.

Henderson's is right on. I go to the Grand location by Fair Park. Plus, if Rudy's is still open on Lancaster it was good. Pope's fried chicken on Carroll is also a good one.

Miss Vernell's in Frost, Tx was legit, but she no longer cooks. You had to go to her house to get it, straight home cooking from her own kitchen.

When I was in Guatamala, they had a place called pollo campero. I dunno, if it was just because I was craving something quazi-American or what, but they had AMAZING fried chicken. On the flight back, there are literally people carrying giant buckets of fried chicken back to the USA.
They've opened up a couple franchises in Dallas and in south houston near hobby. I haven't been there yet, but in Guatamala they were awesome.

Finished my work in the area around 3 and the lines were bigger! Must be something good there, makes me want it more now! I will get me some of that!

OK--I made it over there today and had chicken and fries.
The fries were seasoned, very tasty. The chicken was some of the better fried chicken i have had, but for me not worth the lines that seem to be there a lot. Very good though!

I received terrible food poisoning at Babes in Burleson. I ordered the chicken fingers. Everyone else ordered Chicken Fried Steak and they were fine.
Reluctantly went back there Saturday and ordered the veggie plate.

Miss Allens in Sweetwater is best chicken anywhere. But call ahead, sometimes they close just to be closing. I've missed it a few times, but when I've eaten there...it's always been some of the best fried chicken I've ever eaten. Go hungry and be prepared to meet new friends at your table.

Went to Hatch's on Forest Hill Drive (in Forest Hill) just south of I20 for lunch today. Never been there before. It's not the most fancy place but the fried chicken on the buffet was very good. Might want to check it out.

There use to be a chicken place in a Red Barn looking place in Brownwood that was awesome. They served these things called chicken Puffs that were awesome.
HEB in Marble Falls has pretty good chicken.
Nothing like cold fried chicken for boat food.

Best fried chicken I ever had was when i was growing up. The Dairy Mart in Waxahachie! Aday's fried chicken was legendary! Only one i have ever had that was better, was my mom's!! Haven't had any since that comes close. Mr Aday has long since moved on to the next plane.

I remember the Dairy Mart!
Don't remember the chicken though, we used to get pretty good burger baskets there.

Jim's Crispy Fried Chicken in Mexia. The fried yadbird is awesome, plus it's where Anna Nicole Smith used to work, so there's a bit of nostalgia to go along with the great food. Yeah, I like to get a couple of nice breasts everytime I go.
