I suppose the water is still too cold to go without them unless your really brave. I've been wading some in shorts recently and launching my boat and that water is cold on the legs.
Where can I find a good deal on some rubber non-insulated waders? Also, I plan to purchase another tube as I plan to introduce an 8 yr. old to tubing. Any idea where I can get rubber waders and flippers for an 8 yr. old? I'll be checking Academy tomorrow.
Where you at Wyliecrappieman? I know you got some good advice.
Can't wait to get back to tubing. I will be without a boat till mid July so I'm breaking out the tube.

Cabela's Bargain Cave usually has several types and brands of waders on sale. For a kid, maybe a pair of wading pants pulled up high would work.

Wes, I have a pair of youth neoprene waders that are great for younguns. They are not too expensive and way more comfortable that any rubber waders are ever gonna be. I got mine at BPS. They are the stockin foot type, but you can get the lug soles as well. The fins are gonna be a different story. Sports authority has fins that will work for the stocking foot waders. The lug sole waders are going to be an issue all to itself. For the lug soles, find some with the strap that will go around the boot. His little feet are gonna be an issue with the boot waders. Get the neoprene then maybe even take them with you to sports authority and try some on over that. It will soon be warm enough to do it without the waders and that is gonna be different too. Thick socks will make up for the neoprene. I had this issue a couple of years ago with my son and we were already camping at Cedar Creek. I'm not even gonna tell ya what I had to do.

I'll go with the stocking foot style. He has some cheap water shoes that will fit over them for walking on the bank.
I take it the neopremes are not too hot to wear right now? I'm sure by June will we just be going in our swimsuit. I just think a swimsuit would be a little cold for me right now.
Thanks for the info.

Neopremes are not that great even in winter. Breathables with layeers under are the way to go, if you need them at all. I get by with quick drying coaches pants, but I live in South Texas. For summer, don't need no stinking waders and the giant hassle, unless you fishing dirty water.

Yeah, the water is a little cool right now but the neoprene is not too hot. You won't need it is a few weeks, but with this new water it is a little cool.

You won't need it is a few weeks, but with this new water it is a little cool. I'll probably wait a couple of weeks before I take the 8 yr. old. It seems a little much to spend the $$$ on the waders for a couple of weeks of use. I'll just wait till late May or June to introduce him to tubing. I'll be getting out in the morning though. I have everything I need. It has been a couple of years since I tube fished so I'm exited about it. Haven't had my waders out since last spring so hopefully I won't discover any new holes in them. Got a question about these new tubes though. I picked up a Caddis Navigator at Academy and you need an adapter to air it up with the compressor. Is that type of stem standard now? I was thinking of taking it back and getting one with a traditional valve stem or is that just too old school of thinking. I really don't need the 2nd tube till late May so I have some time to pick up a new one if anyone has any suggestions. The style of the Navigator is good enough for me I just worry about the way you air up the bladder. Should I be concerned or just go with it? What type adapter does that take to air it up?

Wes I'm not familiar with that tube as carcass what type valve it uses. I'd have to see it.

Here is a photo of the tube and the air valve. It is a nice looking tube. I'm just not sure what to make of that air valve.

I have a Cadis like this one, it is about 4 years old and I couldn't get a replacement bladder with this type of valve. I bought a new one last year through BPS and the air valve is different, although you still need the adapter to us an air compresser. I now use a manual pump, available at Walmart, and have no problems. There are web sites which offer these adapters for sale.

Ok, I've had one with that kind of valve before. It has been so long I can't even remember it having an adapter. I'd just use a regular compressor and trigger type nippled blower and air it up. I had problems with it leaking.

I had problems with it leaking. I had the exact same tube for over a year. For a good 4 months i did just what WC said with the trigger type air compressor fitting. Then i got an adapter for it from BPS. Its a simple vinyl tube with a tire valve stem at one end. I believe I got it for 4ish dollars. If youre around the metromess we could meet up and you can have it since I no longer have that tube.
