I was wonderin what all the regulations are for setting trotlines in Texas public lakes. Also this time of year where is the best place to set them out. In debts 1-8, 8-15, 0r deeper? If it rains, is it good to set them on the mouths of the river and creeks or not? Trying to catch blues... What's the best bait for blues? I can get live perch or shad or use cut bait on either. and are cinderblocks good for anchors or do you have any other ideas?? Im going to put one out on Grapevine and was wondering if anybody had luck with them anywhere. Anything will help out alot. Thanks

A line in the water has a better chance catching a fish than a line in the garage.

You are going to be looking for shallower water this time of year.

I dont konw if you are making them or buying them but 50 or less hooks per line 36" or greater between stagings, I forget what the overal length limit is. You are suposed to tag them with a gear tag that has your name adsress and date of the line on it( the tag is not required to be visible and the line is not required to be marked)

Pick up a copy of the Outdoor Annual (hunting & fishing regulations for Texas) or look online at the TPWD website.
http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/

It is always best to go to the source/agency when asking about regulations instead of asking those on an open forum...not all will agree with one another and some may end up giving you incorrect information pertaining to regulations.

Do not set it up in a popular area like right out of a marina. That's what several of the morons on Eagle Mountain have been doing as of late. Surely they're on something.

they are probably on the same stuff your on bob lol jk
but realy please think of others when you set your line I saw 4 sets of lines on my home lake where people set trot lines tied to rebar that stuck about 4in above the top of the water and stuck them in the mud in the busy part of the lake, I almost hit a few of them and that would be nasty on a hull, now they are gone..... So just think of others before you set them

donno if this will help out or not but i got mine set out on a flooded area next to a mouth of a creek, its been doing pretty well there i just need to keep up with it more often.. i got a 25 hook home made trotline made with twine from walmart. its tied to 17" rims and tied blood knots 6 feet from each other, took trotline clips tied them to 4 feet leader line and just clamped them to my blood knots. Again with what downanddirtyblues
said, please think of others when putting it out. I hope this helps you get an idea for what your looking for.

lol!! thats pretty funny deerstrangler!! i had to tell the boss man about that one. well since i know that its atleast not boat accessable (john boat has trouble in this shallow waters) so i feel safe with my rims out there.. BUT it is about 10 to 15 feet off the bank for anyone to walk out and jack em! but i know no ones will ever think about fishing the area where i set it out at..
