Put in 2 hours in at a local venue which many of you will recognize the background. It's produced a bunch for me over the last year and I really enjoy fishing it. I needed a bullhead for the multispecies so I loaded up my buzzbars from my pod, banksticks, 2 rods, and the alarms, buttrests, and swingers. I planned on doing a short session just to check on how it was fishing, maybe get a bullhead. I packed light and brought just PVA and some simple stuff and rigged up.

Got to the swim at 6:20 and set up the "Mini pod" and started fishing my 2 rods. I threw some range cubes out just to get them in the area. I think about 30 minutes passed and I got a jerky run. Bullhead! It just happened to be a yellow bullhead, there's very few of these in here!

I posted it because it's another species

I reset the rod then had a run on the other rod. Fish on!

I had a pretty good sized crowd watching me fight this fish! Turned out to be a 12 on Banana maize, which is producing great at the cliffs right now. I'm on a streak!

I had another run on the same rod about 20 minutes later.

Yet another on banana maize. This one was a little over 10

Here's the setup I fished today. Pretty simple but still euro style set up.

I was going to end the day right here, but something made me walk over to a rockpile and cast the pink crappie jig on my ultralight by the rocks. 2nd cast I saw a large wake behind the jig but it turned at the last second. I casted back. WHAM! something big slammed it. I fought it gently in. Check out the new soon to be water body record Largemouth Bass!

I wasn't going to go for it, you guys know how much I hate sending in records, BUT this is a record i've been trying for for about 5 years so I went ahead and decided to go for it. I dug through my bag. Whhhhhat? no tape measure? I called Mom and she said she'd bring me a tape measure! I stuck the fish in the landing mat and filled it with water. Then my banana maize rod unexpectedly got a run! I decided to submit this fish for a record too, and Mom showed up to net it for me. YESS!

We then got all the requirements taken care of and released the fish.

Bass- 19.5 inches long, 14 inch girth, 4.25lbs(Boga)

Carp- 27 inches long, 18 inch girth, 12.50lbs(Boga with mat subtracted)
I have about 5 more of each fish for weight, girth, and length. I don't want to post them, so check them oue on my flickr or on my blog when I post it.

Flickr is here-

All in all a great session, I will be back tomorrow after a few more!

Sending in the Boga to get certified this week. It'll be official after that.

Austin! You beat my record at Andy Brown! My bass stood since April 11, 1999. It was 16.75 inches long. Way to go. Just today I started the multispecies contest and caught 3. They were a black bullhead, yellow bullhead and bluegill, all from the Duck Pond. I would like for you to teach me how to carp fish.

Good stuff Austin, congrats on the record(s). Have the turtles started their annual takeover there yet? I'd like to get back out there before spring ends.

No turtles and barely any bullheads! I was fishing pretty far out though. I baited about 25 feet out and on and I saw about 10 crash in the hour before dark.

I'm fishing it tomorrow afternoon if anyone wants to tag along. Already prebaited a little during this trip.

Nice fish man! Congrats on the Record.

I think I fished that pond once before with Zach and Donny, but all we were doing was Float Fishing.

No sign of carp, we only got turtles and bullheads, but that was in the middle of summer. We were fishing around that dock.

Looks like I might have to fish it again now that I know there's some decent carp in there!

What's the biggest common you've taken out of those ponds?

I've gotten a high teen, like 17 or 18 there. I think Ben and Stephen have pulled a larger one out

if it's the place I am thinking of I did not have much luck there, just a couple very small ones, Ben got a few bigger ones though.

well done out there Austin thumb

BTW is that the place you have to welk over that small bridge and is a bit of a walk to the bank?
