The DFW Bank Fishing map I created a year ago has expanded, thanks to recent contributions from TFF members, and now includes areas in and around Houston.

This map was created to help bank fisherman find good spots to fish.

If you have a spot that you'd like to add to the map, anywhere in Texas, find the location in Google Maps, then click on the "Link" button at the top right of the map. In the popup that appears, click where it says "Paste link in email or IM" and copy the link. Paste it into a PM to me and I'll get them on the map.

Texas Google Bank Fishing Map

If you want a spot posted, I need the location information per the instructions above. If I have to go searching for the location, or if the information is too general (i.e. Brazos River) it's not going to get posted.

Tight Lines!

Great map, hopefully some folks will start sending spots for the other side of Houston as well, my Dad lives on the NE side of Houston and we go down a few times a year.

Good general information. If you have specific fishing spots I can add them to the map.

It would be hard to pin point em. I just know that these bodies of water produce very good fish and have lots of bank area. Been fishing them for years.

I know these kinds of maps are helpful to those new to an area, but some of my areas that I've publicized have been cleaned out since, so I'm going to keep quiet publicly. I'd be glad to share some spots via PM for any Houston area fishers....

As someone new to the greater San Antonio area, I can honestly say that ANY spots around here would be fantastic. I have been to Miller's Pond and Live Oak Lake but there hugely overfished, other than that I seen references to locations like "the San Antonio River" "Cibolo Creek" and the like - but no one every explains where or what the access points are so for someone like me who has no clue where these places are or how to get to a spot where there is water instead of dry creekbed, it's hard to figure out better places to go. Any help would be welcome help.

I'll try to pinpoint the Live Oak and Miller's pond areas for the map so they are up there.

This isn't the thread to ask those questions. If you want to get reports from these parks, you need to find a thread that is about these parks, or start your own thread. Hijacking a thread that isn't related to your topic isn't considered good forum etiquette.

I am at Fort Worth. Just wonder within one hour drive radiaus, is any marina on any lake or on water pier good for night fishing.

I used to fish in NM, you can rent a spot on the marina to do late night or overnight fishing. The nice thing, they setup unwater light to attract fishs.

thanks for any info

@fishing is fun - if you look at the map, there are any number of great spots to fish within an hour of where you are, and all of them will produce at night, especially if you're looking for cats, but other species can be caught as well.

The fishing map officially now has more than 150 fishing spots - I just posted location number 157. All spots are now numbered sequentially to make it easier for people to find and share favorite spots.

We've had over 250,000 hits on the map since I first started it last April.

But we need to expand!! How about you guys in East Texas, Austin and San Antonio - we haven't heard from you!! West Texas, we need your favorite spots too! And I know that there are a lot of guys that like to shore fish those jetties and inlets along the coast - need to hear from you!!

It's amazing how many people I run into now when I'm out bank fishing that have heard of this map, and I continue to receive great feedback from users.

Thanks to all who have contributed - there wouldn't be a map without your contributions.

@Fishing is Fun - no problem. Us bank fishing guys have to stick together!

@Reaper - thanks for the CL spot!! I'll get it on the map. Would be helpful to know what species you're catching at this spot.

Everyone else - Need to hear more from those of you that fish that part of the state!

OK, no problem. I could assume what people could expect to catch, but I've tried to make all entries as accurate as possible in terms of location, species, etc. If anyone has fished the location and has first hand information, let me know. In the meantime, I've added the spot to the map - fist on CL! Woot! thumb

On another topic. I've been kicking around some ideas for taking the map to the next level, perhaps adding additional features, possibly to include information like camping info, guide information, etc. I'm interested in hearing any thoughts from users on features/functionality that they'd like to see, including usability features that would improve navigation on the site, etc.

If you have any suggestions, please post them here.

Hey Kitty,

Here's a spot in Columbus that I scouted out and found some small river Guads. Its a also a launching point for canoes and kayaks.

I forgot to include:

Its the Colorado River.
I forget the name of the park.
The water was stained to clear. It seems pretty nice to also go in with waders, but the current may be too strong.

Hey guys...new to the site and i stumbled upon this earlier. Great idea KittyWomper!!!!!!

I'm from Southeast Texas, about 30 mins east of Beaumont, in Orange!
I am an avid bank fisher, so I thought I would share some spots.

Note: Most are Saltwater or Brackish water.

LNVA Salt Water Barrier (Beaumont, Tx)
-Brackish water, stocked ponds before you get to barrier, restrooms,
-Ponds w/trout, river for redfish/drum and cats
-Not a great part of town!!

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=neches+river+salt+water+barrier&hl=en&ll=30.154136,-94.115506&spn=0.00436,0.009602&t=h&z=17

Lake Street/Old Ferry Road (Bridge City, Tx)BAIT and FISH
-Saltwater,Piers for crabbing (great saltwater bait!), Fish where waterway meets Old River Cove, Popping cork for small reds and good sized trout
-Follow curve to bridge. Bridge is usually crowded but yields good sized reds

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Lake+Street,+Bridge+City,+TX&hl=en&ll=30.003669,-93.84573&spn=0.017467,0.038409&sll=29.991497,-93.849635&sspn=0.008735,0.02738&z=15

Pleasure Island Pier (Port Arthur, Tx)
-Saltwater
-Recently remodeled, Lighted, RV Park, Restrooms
-Avoid baitshop across highway, Castnet for bait near pier (watch rocks)
-Pier gets crowded, get there early to get a spot
-Fish end of pier for larger reds, drum, gafftop, trout. Fish near 2-story pier for small reds, large spec. and sand trout.
-Popping cork with live or fresh dead shrimp, small baitfish

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=SGS+Causeway+Bait+%26+Tackle,+T+B+Ellison+Parkway,+Port+Arthur,+TX&hl=en&ll=29.763651,-93.897829&spn=0.004377,0.009602&sll=29.765681,-93.896585&sspn=0.016578,0.038409&z=17

Clam Lake Road (Sabine Pass, Tx)
-Saltwater
-Piers for crabbing-BAIT
-Fish at first bridge (either side), large Redfish, Drum, Spec. Popping cork with live shrimp, Gulp! artificial (shrimp, 3-4 in. any color)
-Road is rough and rocky
-Part of McFaddin National Wildlife Refuge
-Can not enter after dark (DO NOT TRY/SPIKE STRIP)

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Clam+Lake,+TX&hl=en&ll=29.681789,-94.078588&spn=0.035047,0.076818&sll=29.683281,-94.070177&sspn=0.035047,0.076818&z=14

Jetty Road/Texas Bayou (Sabine Pass, Tx)
-Saltwater
-Lots of places to fish along road once you pass Coast Guard Station
-Need truck to access far end of road (best fishing)
-All saltwater species, Mostly redfish
-End of road is very shallow, popping cork/topwaters

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Jetty+Road,+Port+Arthur,+TX&hl=en&ll=29.691091,-93.843069&spn=0.008761,0.019205&sll=29.704698,-93.852468&sspn=0.00876,0.019205&z=16

I hope these spots help and get added soon. Most of these spots will yield nice sizes and numbers of fish. All of these areas have tons of places to bank fish. Just explore a little : )

Most importantly; watch the tides, use topwaters and popping corks, make sure you have plenty of gas, bait and plenty of be...i mean water : )

@SETexasTitan - great spots! Thanks for putting the Beaumont area on the map! I'll get these posted right away.

Also, to everyone on this thread. If you haven't seen it already, I just started a new group on Twitter. It's called TXFishingRpts. The idea is to use social media (Twitter) to post live fishing reports.

It's a new group, so it doesn't have a lot of followers yet, but as the number of followers increases, so will the activity. My objective is to have hundreds of followers and fishing reports coming in live from all over Texas.

To use it, you might make a posting like this example:

"Killing the Sandies on #Lewisville in 20' of water on blue/silver Kastmasters".

The "#" or Hashtag in front of the name of the lake will make it easy to find reports on the lake you are interested in.

So, add yourself as a follower and get in on the action! rockon

Great JessieDee - glad you like it. Lots of contributions from the folks here on TFF.

And to all my buds on here, I just posted my 187th bank fishing spot to the map, and this month we topped 300,000 hits, averaging nearly 20,000 hits per month! Most of those come from the people here on TFF.

This is a great tool to find new spots to bank fish.Is there a way to update ponds/lakes that people can confirm that small ponds/lakes dried up ,or the fish died. This might help others not drive somewhere that does not exist or have fish in it any longer.

Good point. Unfortunately as a result of some people maliciously moving the location of points on the map, I had to discontinue allowing anyone to edit the map.

However, if you know of locations that are no longer fishable due to low water or other reasons, shoot me a PM and I'll get the map updated.

Both are in all of the creeks. Try Mason Creek whereever you can get access and a bit of water depth.

BTW I did some exploring on Sunday in the Cinco Ranch area. There are some nice looking lakes, but all are marked "No Trespassing - Residents Only", so I didn't fish them. Some I walked around a bit and saw lots of fish; mostly bass and sunnies.

Yeah...I gave Mason Creek a shot for the first time last weekend. The conditions weren't ideal. I could see fish moving in the water...but didn't get any bites. I did fish South Lake in Cinco Ranch. I noticed a lot of top water action towards the middle of the lake...but was only able to hook up with one small bass.

I'm going to head to mason tomorrow after work (around 1 or 2).
Last weekend wasn't good at all for anything (no bass, very few cats)

If I don't get anything for 2 hours, probably going to head to La centerra.
Gillinator said the algae amount was small, for which I'm glad.

They have those signs at la centerra too.
Nobody bothers me though. I guess as long as you don't leave trash around (you shouldn't anywhere) or cause a ruckus, you're good.

Anyone in Katy know whats being built here?

Ive passed by it yesterday morning (before the rain) and noticed its filling up with water. Im guessing its a retention pond, but it'll be nice to know if its going to be stocked with fish.

I can do it on Android with Google maps installed...it only shows you the spots and not the text info.
Open this link with your phones browser or maps and it should work.

Actually unfortunately you can't update the map at all. Because some goomba decided it would be funny to move map points around to places where there was no lake, I had to take away the ability for anyone to update the map.

Send me a PM with the information and I'll add it to the map.

Thanks,

Ron

I've been away from TFF for awhile now and have neglected updates to the map for health reasons and other of life's little distractions.

However, I just went through the queue of update requests that I had and have added some new ones to the map.

Total spots now is just under 200, and we've passed the 400,000 hits mark - pretty cool, I guess people are using it.

Again, many thanks to all those that have contributed, and my hope is that this continues to provide a valuable tool to every banker just looking for a good place to fish.

Gotcha covered Russ. Always looking for good spots in the Austin area, so keep 'em coming.

Ok, so with Russ's post, I just posted the 199th fishing spot.

So, who's going to be the one to post the 200th spot??!!

Whoever that person is will one an all expenses paid[by you] bank fishing trip to the fishing spot of your choice with[or without, your choice] your wife/significant other, kids[whether you have any or not], and all of your relatives! This is a rare opportunity, so send me that rare, undiscovered location today!

Also, we're still at around 435,000 hits since I started this map 2 years ago, and I'm thinking that we should be above 500,000 by now. So that means that you guys must not be fishing enough, not using the map enough, not telling your friends about it, or something! So, start using the map - I have a reputation to think about! whip

And, one last thing. My good buddy Matt Dobson, just launched a new application for the iPhone called "Fishing Scout". It's a great way to share what you're catching and where for you iPhone users. I hope that all of you iPhone guys and gals will download Matt's app and give it a try.

Oh, and one more last, last thing and I promise this really is the last thing. A lot of you have expressed your appreciation on the map, and I've run into a number of you on the water who are using the map. Just so, you know, I didn't create this map all by myself. When I started 2 years ago, I scouted some spots on Lake Lewisville, created the map and started promoting it. It took off from there, and there have been many, many contributors since then - so thanks to everyone for their support. flehan

I'd love to hear stories (and see pics) of what people are catching at the spots on the map - I mean what better way to get people excited about bank fishing and fishing a given lake or spot than to hear what people are catching there, right?? So, share your stories and post 'em here. And remember wopics

That's all for now.....now go drown' some worms...

well since you asked so nicely. i was at 30.687526, -94.953575, which is on the list as choates creek, when i caught the bass i have posted under "creek fishing" on the bank fishing board. and as for new spot to bank fish, i do have a new one ,30.689943, -95.036986. but it's a p.o.a. marina. for right now they don't seem to be enforcing the members only rule, but if that worries you, send me a p.m. letting me know when you'll be getting there and i'll go with you, i'm a member. all i've caught there is blue and channel cats.

Joe, you've added a bunch of spots on the map. But, unfortunately I don't make a practice of adding spots on private property to the map, and a members-only marina would fall into that category.

Have another one??

absolutly no problem with that. i don't have any new ones, unfortunately. but i'll keep looking. i think i may have a spot, but it's been too wet to drive close to it, and i'm not sure how badly the bank has been undercut, after all the flooding, to walk it. as soon as i get nervy enough i'll let you know.

If you want a spot posted, I need the location information per the instructions above. If I have to go searching for the location, or if the information is too general (i.e. Brazos River) it's not going to get posted.

Texas Parks and Wildlife have a map that could be added to the list. It has Mostly sites around Austin (I wouldn't keep any of the fish from here though):

http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/fish/programs/gofishing/austinfish/austin_map.phtml

However, I imagine similar sites are available for the other metro areas.

Hey all:

Well, we're approaching 500,000 hits on the map, more than I ever expected in my wildest dreams when I first started this a few years ago.

We're also just one fishing spot short of having 200 spots on the map. There are still some areas of Texas where coverage is pretty sparse - notably, East Texas.

There are a lot of lakes between the Metroplex and East Texas, but we have very few, if any spots - how about you guys that fish Twak, Fork, Cedar Creek?

Anyway, thanks to all who have made it possible, and if you have spots you'd like to see added, shoot me a PM and I'll get them added (and please follow the instructions at the beginning of this thread).

Tight lines!

Lots of fabulous bank fishing all around the spot where FM2869 crosses lake Hawkins on both sides. This is a local secret smile Just as likely to catch things here as in a boat.

A shout out this morning to Trent Osbourne and Stoneman23 for providing some great new fishing spots in the Lubbock area, officially bringing the total number of fishing spots to 213!thumb

In fact, we've completely filled page one of the map and have now started a 2nd page of spots. Google maps doesn't handle this very well - instead of showing ALL spots on one map and just having the index span more than one page, it actually splits the map into two separate maps (weird huh?). So, to see the Lubbock spots, you'll have to scroll to the bottom of the list and go to page 2.

We are just a hair under 500,000 hits!! Woot! Woot! I'm sure we'll hit the half-a-million mark early in June. Many thanks to everyone who has made this possible! flehan

And remember - if you've caught fish at these spots, please post them to the thread!! wopics....well maybe not worthless, but it would certainly make it more interesting!

Tight Lines and fish safe out there this weekend!

OK Trent....well thanks for setting the bar so dang high!!! grin

I'll get some of these pics added to the spots you sent me, that way when people click on a spot on the map, they can get a sense of what people are catching there (or in this particular case, what they could have caught at these spots until you and Mike went and caught 'em all!).

OK bank fishing guys & gals, I need to put out a request. I grew up in the IT industry and have 30 years in that industry, but a developer I am not.

When I started this little project in 2010, I was just going to use it as my own little personal tool for plotting some fishing spots on Lake Lewisville. Then I started sharing the map, and, well, let's just say that things have gotten a little out of hand!

Here's the deal - with the 200th fishing spot we just added, Google Maps now has our listing of spots spanning 2 pages. No biggy, but here's the bad part - the actual map itself is now split into two pages, i.e. as spots continue to be added, the listing will actually be split across two physical maps....not good.

Now, I know that there are some slick things that could be done with this thing using Javascript and the Google Maps API, that would help clean things up and make for a better UI, a more usable map and a better end-user experience, but I'm not planning on teaching this old dog some new Javascript tricks at this point.

So, if there are any able-bodied developers reading this that are interested in helping me up the "cool factor" here, drop me a PM.

OK, as you were.....back to bank fishing.

Texas Google Bank Fishing Map for your iPhone or Android

Wanted to post some information on how to easily access the Texas Google Bank Fishing Map from your iPhone or Android phone via the Google Maps mobile app.

Of course you can access the map from your phone's browser, but because of the amount of data, the interface is clumsy, so here's what you do:

1. If you don't already have a Google account, create one.

2. From your PC, navigate to Texas Google Bank Fishing Map.

3. Click on "Save to My Places".

4. Go to the Marketplace (Android) or App Store (iPhone) and download Google Maps.

5. Bring up Google Maps (on the Android it's called Maps).

6. Click on the Layers icon next to Search and scroll down to "My Maps", then click on the Texas Bank Fishing Map link.

Each time you bring up Google Maps and click on Layers, the link to the map will be there.

If you click on the magnifying glass in the lower right-hand corner you can toggle between List Mode and Map Mode.

Tight lines!
