Planning to go this weekend.

Last weekend, went Friday evening (03-11th/12th-2011).
-Dead shrimp, off the bottom:
-Bunch of whitings.
-Endless hardheads after sundown. (1 every 5-10 minutes or so)

Wade on the flats (Bolivar Pocket?):
-Dead shrimp, lures.
-Water level: About 1.5 - 2 ft at the trash can (half to the boat cut?)
-nothing at all. No bait fish either.

March 26th (Saturday)

Went out there around 10AM to 3PM (I ran out of suntan lotion and got burnt frown ). About out towards the trashcan.

West side of the jetty (Don't know what its called, the deeper side):
-Dead shrimp, off the bottom.
-Caught a few Black Drums, averaged around 19-20 inches.
-Saw a guy walking back with a Bull Red about 40 inches? Probably got it near the boat cut.

Flats, wade (Bolivar pocket, East of the jetty):
-Starting to see bait fish and blue crabs.
-Water level was about 1ft - 1.5ft to 2ft.
-Didn't catch anything but a lot of activity around me.

Sorry about the delay, I usually don't get on unless I'm at work and not busy.

The next two weekends I'll be busy but if I hear anything from my buddies, I'll keep yall updated.

Nico, do you drive to the beach access and wade from there?

I tried wading the pocket from the jetty once... huge mistake, deep mud and lots of oyster shell to tear up your waders/legs.

I'm assuming you waded right at the beginning(brown area on the picture). Yeah there is a lot of soft mud there.

The red area is usually were I wade at. Off the jetty is an oyster bed no more than a few feet wide. If you're careful entering the water from the rocks, you shouldn't have a problem with getting hurt or scratching up your boots. The water is usually a foot deeper at the oyster bed but once you pass it, you'll start to move over hard mud (or whatever you want to call it, wet dirt is mud to me.)

The trash can is roughly in the blue area. Nice spot because you can throw your trash away. (Don't mess with Texas)

The green line is were the smooth concrete ends and the hike begins.

The yellow is the boat cut.

Hope you have better luck next time.

thanks for the nice graphic representation!

yeah I attempted to wade the brown area not knowing better. didn't get very far...

Was told to drive to the first beach access then drive as far as safely possible on the beach towards the jetty, park, and wade from there out into the red area you have detailed. Haven't tried it yet but I plan to get down there soon and do just that.

My daughter caught 2 nice trout 5-6 Lbs at the end of the concrete last August on topwaters, what a great day!

you're welcome. Just spreading the love (fishing love that is).

I think this is the first beach access in red. I never been there before because my car would get in stuck in the sand so I never tried.

I seen the bait shop guy catch flounders here in green, line n hook. On good nights, the water is crystal clear in the red area and you may be able to gig if you want. I never tried. Just another thing to carry on the jetties.

Note, if you fish at night, the mosquitoes are vicious. Don't forget the DEET.

Friday 29th of April.

Location: North Jetty, Port Bolivar
Time: 22:30
Conditions: Partly Cloudy
Winds: 20 - 23 mph SSE
Moon Phase: 16% Waning
Tide: Low .3'
Water level: About 2' to 4' at our spot.
Catch: Loads of Hardheads & some Gaffs, 24" Red, 15" & 16" Black Drums
Summary: It was a pretty windy night and waves were splashing over the jetties. Wading was pretty good expect on the oyster bed, current was pretty strong and water was up to my my lower chest. We finished earlier than usual but if we stayed, I think would of caught a few more Black Drums and maybe another Red.

Most of the time, we start hiking back before the sun comes up, so we don't usually see too many specs. But if any are caught, we'll definitely keep you posted.

If you ever see a group of 4 fishing in the dead of night at the N. Jetty... that will be us; nico84, myself, and 2 other fishing buddies. smile

MMmmmm love that north jetty stank in the morning.

Location: North Jetty, Port Bolivar
Time: 22:00
Conditions: Partly Cloudy
Winds: 12ish mph SSE (picked up to about 20mph when the tide came in)
Moon Phase: 6% Waxing
Tide: Low -.1
Water level: About 1' to 2' when we started. 2' - 3' early morning.
Catch: (Me) Loads of Hardheads, 27" & 24" Reds and 30" Black Drum.(Crew) Hardhead, Reds, Sand trouts, and even a stingray.
Summary: We had to walk pretty far out to get to the fish-able waters. Hardheads the first half of the night but once the tide started to come in, everything else started to hit. (no pictures this time.)
