There has been a lot of debate on this forum over the years about shallow water anchors or "portable trees" for fishing skinny water.

I have used PVC pipes for years but got tired of fooling with them and the mess they make so I have been working on coming up with a cheap alternative to the expensive manufactured models.

This is my second attempt and I have it nailed now, they work GREAT. I have used these to anchor my 22 foot Xpress in the high winds over the past week with no issues and am 100% satisfied with their performance.

You can get full details on the cost and what I did to make these here:

No problem. See my note on there about the shipping on the fiberglass rods. I suspect you could load up enough people on TFF to get a big order and net the shipping down.

They work EXCELLENT.

Mustan92g

The issue with the popup that will not go away appears to be caused by running outdated web browsers. I have someone looking at it.

You might try updating your version of internet explorer or changing to Google Chrome.

Does the mud not stick to the fiberglass as bad? I have iron ones with a bolt welded in it as a spike. It still brings some mud back in the boat.

I got around mud getting in the boat by taking a 10ft piece of 4" PVC pipe to place my trees in after each use. I cap one end thenmdrill holes in the cap to let any water out. About half way up I cut the pipe length ways to the other end, just cut say 2-3" slice out so the pipes will fit thru it. Then I slide my pipes in to this after use. Every so often I take a water hose to wash some of the mud/dirt out of the pvc pipe. It keeps muds from getting into the boat and keeps rusty pipes from getting rust stands on the carpet. My slit is a little wide than needed.

Yes the rod is solid. Yes the mud will stick to them but not enough to make a mess. I just slap them on the water a couple of times and knock the chunks off and move on.

I made a couple of updates to this article this afternoon.

To those that emailed me about getting a discount price through the folks with the fiberglass rod, I cannot help. I paid the same price they are charging everyone that calls.

They aren't cutting me any favors or deals for passing on the link to their site I was just sharing the information.

Sorry I cannot be of more assistance.

Why wouldn't. 3/4" fiberglass sucker rod work? People that work on windmills should have used peices
