There are a few lake record fish that were NOT submitted to the S.A.L. program. So far, this is what I've found and I'm about 66% thru the list of 62 water bodies that had S.A.L.'s submitted:

Amon G. Carter - 14.44, March 15, 1996
Lake Athens - 14.19, May 14, 1988
Big Creek Reservoir - 14.06, March 4, 1996
E.V. Spence - 14.2, October 25, 1997
Falcon - 15.63, January 7, 2011
Lake McQueeney - 13.12, October 19, 1996
Mill Creek - 16.77, March 1, 1990
Nacogdoches - 14.02, March 19, 1986
Nocona - 13.4, March 27, 1997
Nueces River - 13.27, November 25, 1990
Lake Corpus Christi - 13.5, November 21, 1989 (never had a S.A.L. reported)
Pinkston - 16.9, February 16, 1986
O.C. Fisher - 15.69, September 23, 1996

For one reason or another, the angler didn't want to use the S.A.L. program (didn't know about it, fished died, didn't want the fish taken away from the lake and released it instead, or other legitimate reasons). Apparently, they were ALL certified because these are listed in the TP&W lake records files.

Lake Fork has got a lot of love from the TP&W over the years. Over 9 MILLION stocked bass since 1995. If you could name off 10 major bass lakes in Texas off the top of your head, all totaled together wouldn't come close to those numbers. I believe that's why Fork is always consistent producing quality bass even with the enormous pressure that lake receives.

And they will. I've gone back and caught the same 6 pounder a month later, off the same stump! And it was as fun the second time as it was the first!

Dottie, the un-official world record, had been caught numerous times. And if she had been kept at 8, 10 or 12 to start with she would have never had the chance to make it to the 18, 20 and 22 she did get caught at, before she was last caught at 25, just before she passed (found floating)!

When down in Amistad 3 months ago I'd heard it had been common to get limits of 40 lbs a few years back, but now very rarely. According to one guide, you'd see guys cleaning 10's daily at the ramp for a few years. That is why that lake is NOWHERE as good as it once was. Some of the guides no longer allow clients to keep bigger ones, I respect them a lot for that. If you can afford a 50K bass boat, or a $400 guide trip, I think you can afford 10 pounds of sea bass; a much better tasting fish by far anyways, bass taste musty to me anyways (or afford burgers?). I suggest, if you have to, keep the 2's -4's, photograph and toss the bigger ones back. Watch the records go up, and watch your own name be posted as the record setter too, how cool would that be?

Glad we are on the same page.

I used to keep all my fish, till I learned the reason behind catch and release. Makes so much sense now.

A bud of mine keeps quite a few, but he's unemployed now. He asked, while I was back seating with him two days ago, if he could keep mine too. I felt bad I had to say no, but he respected it. I like to toss 'em all back. He caught and kept a bunch of 3's, but he does toss the 6's and over back. He like to catch big ones again too. But all those 4's I caught and tossed back will be 5's next time I get them, if not bigger huh?

With as many people as there are fishing live waterdogs and perch right now on Ivie you would think if it was going to happen here it would pretty quick.

Add Joe Pool to your list of lake record over 13 that didn't go to the state. JP had a new lake record caught 2 years ago that went home with the angler. I believe that was a 14.68. They took the pics at Lynn Creek Marina.

I think it's important to take some of the smaller fish. I think the slot works better if people actually take the smaller ones on occasion. I have kept some from time to time, all of them 1 - 2 pounders. Anything bigger gets released right away.

I do find it interesting that lakes without a slot seem to produce bigger fish. It could be a cart/horse thing.

There is know way u can convince me that 25% of tournament fish die within a week. How in the world could u ever even attempt to prove a statement like that. If that's the case, there would b dead bass floating everywhere .

Well I think the reason slots do not really work is all the slots finally become too numerous and have a really hard time growing through the slot. on Caddo we catch about 70% slot fish
I just do not see how that could be a good thing for growing large fish.

I've seen more than enough dead bass around tourney release sites to be willing to entertain the 25% number. It's easy to prove with a simple controlled study holding the tourney-caught fish in pleasant conditions for a week. Exceedingly easy, really.

I believe tournaments have a very significant negative impact on our fisheries. There's no way I could count the instances of fish mishandling I've witnessed. Those clowns will yank the bass from the livewell in triumph as if they were planting the flag on Iwo Jima, then they hold 'em horizontally with the jaw folded back. It's painful to watch.

Those who disagree tend to be tournament anglers, and their primary rationale is that they simply wish it weren't so, therefore it's the truth.

Thanks, Alton, I've added that tid-bit to my data base. I checked that and is was a 14.45 lb, 26.75" long on April 8, 2008 by Rick Vallejo.

That's the key. They held those fish in a tank. That is no different than hollding them in a livewell. The study should state that 25% of tournament fish, kept in a storage tank, die in a week. That I believe

Only if the live well had constant water changes, the oxygen would deplete real fast otherwise.
