I've been mulling over the idea of whether to paint jig heads or leave them plain. Anybody here have what they consider proof positive as to which works best?
I'm kinda guessing that crappie are so notional that we probably need the whole arsenal of painted and unpainted heads to feel like we have the necessary tools to have a fighting chance against those wily papermouths.
Hard to believe a critter with such a pea-brain can stump us so often or at all for that matter.

I believe I catch as many on an unpainted as painted, but heck, why not invest hundreds of dollars in a multitude of paint colors nuts

They do look better painted but not sure the crappie give a carp..

It's not the question of intelligence, as I see it, but what color/combo/nuance can they see the best for the depth, clarity, light penetration from day to day.

That being said, I ain't got no ideee!
I carry both.

You are right- orange heads are terrible... I will take them and dispose of them just to make sure they don't fall into the wrong hands...

The last 2 weekends at Texoma that is exactly what they preferred. As a matter of fact if it wasn't an orange head we didn't get bit. Thanks Bentley again. Qrange head, white crystal body, chartreuse tail with red flash. thumb thumb

im a professional fisherman that has seen a lot of days on the water and i have found that from day to day they change such as the last 2 days here in my home lake cypress springs they only want a solid white calftail jig with a hot pink head the less the tail action the better and more the bite but as the nights cooled here the fish wanted the same color but with a marbou tail with more action but what im tryin ta say is sometimes when they are feeling finikey they hit only certan things what they want is only what they want and other days whatever you have will do just fine depends solely on the mood of the day of the fish you are trying to catch
now with that being said i carry both painted and unpainte mostly because of my own lazyness i like painted mostly but like the conviniance of a fast tie put out a hundred or so and no waiting an them to cure in the oven or spending time to powder paint gets me on the water faster but in my mind thiers no doubt fish like painted heads in some conditions better just depends on thier mood of the day or time you are putin it in thier face
just my thoughts and my preferd metods as we all battle the madness
