Well if I would've had a decent guide, maybe it would have been 6.

I thought that it wasn't that low. Check out Bass Colonel last trip on you tube. He said what I said.

Was out this past saturday from 1-5:30 and put 15 in the boat on a square bill crank and a shaky head. Most fish in 4ft or less. Most of the fish looked ready to pop.

I fished last Sunday and the wind was howling so it really limited where I could fish. I ended up with 4 in the boat and missed lost/missed at least 3 others on lizards/crank bait. Water temp was 65 and the lake is down at least 1.5-2 feet. A lot of my spots from last year are no good now due to the low water. This Saturday is looking windy as well but may be ok on Sunday. I'm dreaming of my 7 day trip to Lake Fork during Spring Break!

Took my big Lab out for a swim in the lake today not getting on the water until 10am. Water Temp:65. Winds:South Overcast Water; Stained .....Lake level has just come up to normal level after being 2-3feet low as Power plant must have purchased and pumped in much needed water. Looks like new higher lake level may have compromised previously make beds as they cannot be seen. Left lake by 3pm.

Boated and weighed total of 8 Bass each between 4 and 5 lbs and also several unders....one of my better days in a while for this lake.

Also had to remove treble hook from my lab's nose....Hurt me more than it did him.

Lou r Pitcher, glad to hear the lab is doing ok. Sorry I couldn't get over to your boat fast enough to help get the hook out.

Nice fish.

Here's the only one I managed to catch.

Yea, looks like you too snagged a hungry Gibbons pre-spawn female there.....Never seen so many egg laden females and so few males bite pre-spawn. I'm kind of wondering if all the males were too busy rebuilding their deep beds since the water just came up? hmmm I only caught one more after I saw you. Yesterday, I was just going out to try to spot some beds for next full moon and got lucky and happened to find some of the gals all staged up together.

But thanks again about the Lab.

Went out yesterday from 1:30 to 5. Pretty slow. Missed 3-4 bites. Got one 3-4 pounder in the boat. Only bites were on a watermelon brush hog.

Water level was at least 2 feet higher than 2 weeks ago. Water was muddy and around 65 degrees.

Surprised it was so slow for this time of year in a warm water lake. The time of day and Saturday cold front may have slowed everything down. But, still no good patterns and not a lot of spawning activity that I can find.

Haven't done any Crappie fishing.

Sunday was definitely slow. I think the cold front and drop in water temp affected the fish. I ended up with 4. First was 5lbs 4oz in 8 ft and the 3d was 3lbs 10oz in about 3 ft of water. Both were caught on CBs.

Thanks; He knows he better give them a quick taste as they go back into the lake and on most days its a long wait before he gets to see me catch the next one.

One bite all day and didn't get it in the boat. Tried crankbait, swimbaits, and spinnerbaits. The only bite came on a little white spinnerbait.

Lots of boat on the lake today. Trailer parking was overflowing into the side lot.

Water was at least a foot higher than it was 2 weeks ago (and it was pretty high then after they pumped water in). Could just barely see the tips of the second set of metal dock pilings over near the intake. 2 weeks ago they were at least a foot out of the water.

It's been slow but the water has come up 2-3 feet. I went Tuesday and only had one bite. Threw frogs, C-rig, and mostly T-rig brushhog. Caught one on the T-rig. I was only there a few hours until dark. The temp was still right around 70 in the creeks near the discharge.

I've only had my boat 6 weeks and have been out there 5 or 6 times so I'm still figuring it out. I really don't know where they should be. I fish pretty slow so I haven't fish much of the lake yet. I've been saving the deeper parts of the main lake until its too hot to fish the creeks. But right now, I'd expect the fish to be in the creeks. I've caught some nice fish, one was 7 lbs, but no numbers at all. It's really slow, especially for Feb-March. There seems like so much useless or really shallow water. But when the lake was a lot lower a few fews ago I saw there's a lot of hidden hardwood. The big fish was right by a stump, now I can't see it but the GPS can.

I'm going in the morning, I'll report back.

Just got back fished from noon till 4. We caught 11, depths ranging from 3 foot to 8 foot. It looks like the fished have spawned or atleast the females we caught have already spawned. Water was really stained and 70 degrees. Good Luck

I went from 7 to 2. Caught 5 and missed a few bites. Most were small. Biggest was about 4 lbs. One female that hadn't spawned was my next largest. No pattern at all. Pretty tough for March.

There were way too many people fishing from the dock.

Went out this afternoon from 5:30 until dark. Didn't get any bites but I spent more time looking around than fishing. Tried some places I've never been before. Water was still right around 70 degrees. Not sure what to think.

Here's my take....

1st I found male bass were busy in early March pre-spawn building beds with females nearby out in 8-10' of water... but about 3-4 weeks ago power plant bought and added about 2-3 feet of water which destroyed all the beds.

2nd) They abandoned the now deep beds and males quickly rebuilt the beds and they looked poor and ragged but every single bed had a bass on them at just before full moon but had no eggs or fry yet.

3rd) I went out a few days ago after full moon on a cloudy day after a night of unusually low temps and the beds all were finished and looked in great shape but every single one of them were abandoned...I guess the eggs/fry could not survive the much cooler water and died.

So far they have not come back and must be stacked up awaiting another opportunity to spawn if the power plant waters don't warm too much and too quickly.

I like your assessment. The rising water changed everything. I haven't seen many beds, the water had been dark since the level came up. It could also be that I'm in the wrong spot.

But I think you're right, they must be backing off in a post spawn pattern.

One of the most difficult things about Gibbons is that in my opinion there are too many spawning areas. Seem like half of the lake is 4 feet or less and full of stumps. The fish don't have to concentrate as much as when there are narrower defined creek arms. The was good article in FLW that was posted here about deep spawn fish.

Along with the changing water level, the temperature has been wierd. It's be 68-71 for a weeks. Maybe the rising water kept it from warming more, maybe the plant isn't generating. I would expect it to be higer by now. Most non-power plant lakes are the same temp.

Yes the temp for Gibbons has been weird....much cooler than in the past years. Don't think the plant has been offline...they did though switch to a different type of coal...one that burns cooler and places less heat loads into the lake and that is why we are seeing the much cooler lake temps this year.

I think with the stained waters, all the Gibbons bass spawning remains shallow like in <3-4 feet. Saw over 50 (empty) beds this week and the nearby small Tilapia schools numbered in the thousands in one area.. Lots of baitfish now for the bass which may also explain the slow action on our lures, but that should help bump up the future years bass numbers if they ever get to spawn.

i feel the same way went way back into a creek and found surprisingly clear water (for gibbons) last week and there was a bed every 5ft on both sides of of the bank and not a single 1 had a fish on it! It made me sick! There were lots of hyacinth in the middle of the creek that were in the middle so we worked it over really good with no luck so I guess they pushed out of there. I'm just ready for the pads to start thicken up so the frog bite will get going!

I am heading out to gibbons in the morning with a buddy of mine. I have never seen the lake and we have a little club tournament the middle of next month. Any hints on what technique to try. Hopefully the wind will die down a little but i guess we will have to see. We will be in a red skeeter zx200 with a 200 yammy on the back.

Well i survived my first trip to Gibbons Creek today. We got on the water at day break and headed straight for the intake. We fished the right side up to the bouys throwing topwaters with no luck. We switched to a t-rigged watermelon lizard and i caught one around a lb or so. My buddy caught another one soon after on the edge of the reeds. I swicthed to a sqaure bill crank in the sexy shad color and picked up one more that could have been used for bait. We left that area since the wind was getting worse and went to the three points over on the right side of the dam. We were graphing what looked like shad all over the end of one point. We threw everything in the box around there and nothing bit. My buddy did manage to catch a huge shad with a flutter spoon so we knew the bait was there but couldn't buy a bite to save our lives. We then moved over to the right side of the dam to fish. I made my first cast with a c-rig and fish on. Nothing big but a decent fish at least. A couple of lbs. BassColonel came over and we chatted and did a quick meet and greet because of the wind. It was a pleasure to meet you sir. After he left i re-tied my c-rig and through back out there. The very next cast i hook this pig.

I didn't weight it but was thinkng between 5 and 6 lbs. She was shallow and in great shape. That was all we caught today. Got off the water at noon and headed back to Katy.

It was great meeting Basspro out on the lake. That's a great fish! I ended up with 8 and the biggest was 4lbs 7oz. Fish were shallow around points. All of them on stumps or brush. My video is up on the Bass Colonel You Tube Channel. Wind was crazy and it doesnt look like it is letting up anytime soon??

Decent day on Gibbons. The fish are tight on the stumps, doesn't matter what depth. Saw a bunch of empty beds.

I also found the post BassColonel pattern. Good to meet you.

Another report from Apr 23...Windy was the word. Our local Club was there with 7 anglers. Me and my partner started out shallow around the point one up from Sulphur and not a bite. No topwater, no plastic, no spinnerbait bumps. Then I smacked a stump and it must have jammed my cables because I wass not able to turn the motor in any direction, so I shut it off. A Club member called and said he needed help as he spun his prop and he was way up there. So we went to get him and idled back to the ramp taking on water from the waves, but we made it. then off to the East side in a pad area and I found some grass with a crankbait around there. Good thing I had a Power Pole, stuck in it about 3 1/2 ft and fought the wind with casts and everything. Started throwing a worm and BAM! Got a nice 3 lber...then another and another and I rigged up my buddy and he got two. I got 5 altogether and we each lost a nice hefty one under the boat. Nice day despite the TM trouble and windy conditions. Starting to like Gibbons alot more now...Go figure! We'll be back. fish
Ended up the one day tournament with just over 15 lbs and landed 2nd place. Can't complain about that! woot

Yup...It has taken about 4 times on the lake to start to appreciate it. I look at the maps, google earth, read reports from others and ask questions and eventually it works. I hate to have a lake whip me - constantly...now its my turn to have some fun!
Back in January when we fished it, caught ZERO but did rescue three conoeists who overturned after a boats wake gave them trouble. Just glad we were coming around the point and noticed them waving from the side of the canoe. Water was COLD and they were a ways from the ramp. Pulled all three on board and towed their submerged canoe to the dock where EMT and Park Ranger was waiting to check 'em over and ask questions.
Good luck on your trip and "let the fish tell you what they want" Later... thumb

Finally a day on the water without getting blown back up on shore...

Lake level down more than a foot...very low for Gibbons...they surely will be buying water in the next few weeks for the power plant needs if we don't get some rain. Water temp just over 80 at inlet. Water clarity , 14"...poor even for Gibbons likely due to recent winds. Lily pad fields sparse and look like shredded lettuce after the high winds but they do show new growth and should quickly come back. Bull rush/reeds are healthy and reappearing in many new locations this spring after declining over last several years.
beds are all long abandoned.

Spent late morning trying numerous lures and was perplexed without a bite. Managed to get 7 in boat by mid-afternoon fishing for bass tight to wood cover using Senkos rigged weightless. Would have stayed for sunset bite, but I had run out of Senkos and my other plastics/lures proved useless.

Thanks for the report. I had the opportunity to go out this afternoon but the wind was just too much. I really wanted to get out yesterday but I didnt get off until about 6:30?? I'll be out by noon tomorrow but I unfortunately it will be windy again. I also hope to be out Sunday morning until about noon.

You are not kidding about the water dropping. It looks like it dropped at least a foot in the last week?? I hit the lake Fri afternoon but the wind was really cranking by then. Only caught 3 fish and one of them was drum. This morning was better. I ended up with 10 fish by 10:00 am when I left due to the wind. Had my best luck in the lily pads using lizards. Cant wait for this wind to finally back off?? You can see the video on my Youtube channel.

Nice catch BassC.

Took the daughter out to Gibbons to introduce her to 'sight fishin' just before the beds were destroyed by last month's high waters. This was her 1st good bass.... hooked, fought and landed all on about 6 feet or less of line. (I told her later she needed to return the hat and glasses back to Jack Hanna):

I took the day off today to take advantage of the beautiful weather. I picked a good one to take and ended up with 19 fish. I had the bonus of running into Lou r. Pitcher on the lake as well. I enjoyed visiting with him and his blonde lab. I am loading a video now on my Youtube channel if you want to check it out.

Was glad to finally meet BassColonel on the lake....seems as I most always fish during mid-week mostly on Thursdays, I had until today always missed meeting him on the water.

We shared a community fishing hole for a while and with his 19 fish this morning, he landed several more today than I could manage in the afternoon. . After he left the lake, I did hang around for the evening sunset and was rewarded with a 6 1/4 lb. bass and sorry BassColonel I must confess, she came from the very same fishing hole we had worked over earlier.

Talk at the ramp tonight indicated a couple of post spawn bass (one above 10 lbs and another just barely below 10) were also caught yesterday and today.

I was out Thursday evening and Friday evening. Should have gone back this morning but stayed up too late watching the Mavs beat the Lakers. Might go out this evening.

Lou, I saw you at the ramp yesterday and didn't realize it. Just after you pulled your boat out of the water, I pulled mine out. White GMC with a white and silver Ranger. Lots of Rangers yesterday evening. I'll watch for you next time.

Thursday was perfect, almost no wind. The water has dropped a lot since I was out there 2 weeks ago. Maybe another foot. I fished about 3 hours and didn't catch much until after 7. Biggest was 3-4 lbs right before dark in some stumps between the island and ramp. There are a lot of fish in the larger patches of lilly pads and they're still hanging close to stumps. I caught 1 on a frog and missed another but the rest were on Texas rigs. I'm hoping the frog bite improves. I think they are gradually moving deeper but still lots of fish in shallow heavier cover.

Friday was much slower for me because of the wind. It was harder to fish the same spots I caught fish Thursday. I love worm fishing and its tough in the wind.

Fished Sat morning until about 10:30 am, caught about 8 fish before the wind cranked up. The early morning bite and the bite in the lily pads wasnt as good as Fri. Looks like another week of high winds...ughhh?? My wife and I are headed to Caddo for 4 days on Memorial Day weekend. Taking today off from fishing for Mother's day brunch, I dont want to push my luck with the wife!

I fished Gibbons Creek for the first time in almost a year on Thurdsay April 28th. We caught 5 fishing from about 7:30 til about noon. 3 fish were caught on Phenix Vibrator Jig with a Zoom Fluke trailer, white/shad color. The other 2 fish were caught on a white tandem spinnerbait. All fish were caught in less than 5 feet of water. Biggest one weight just shy of 5 pounds.

Tough morning out there today with the North Wind and maybe from the big rain we had on Thur?? Took my cousin this morning hoping to catch a lot of fish but the wind kept me off a lot of my good spots and the bite was slow. I ended up with 6 and he had one. We both did miss a few bites as well. Here was the best fish at 5lbs 2oz:

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that while we didn't get a single fish to bite, I was very happy not to get bit by the 6 to 8 foot moccasin that swam under the boat and popped up right between my legs. I thought I was going to fly off the other side of the boat.

Yea, I had to post separately on another thread yesterday regarding my little Gibbons dive and swim.

Went back today, this time with my daughter home from college (and always the Lab) but again today, I only had similar mediocre results. I did though, manage to stay dry.

And I too 'personally' might know your snake's family if he's the one livin over on the rocks near the lake dam. Have a story 'bout him,(his grand-daddy is buried in my front yard) but can't tell it here as no one would ever believe another word I ever said on this forum ...not that they do now.

Fished today from 5:30 till dark. We caught 6 fish. Largest was 5-7 lbs (forgot my scale, might have been good luck).

All were in shallow (1-4 feet) lilly pads on Grande Bass Rattlesnakes. The seemed to like it wacky rigged best. The bite turned on around 7:30 but tapered off a little as it got closer to dark. They hit it right as it hit the water. No frog bites. We lost at least as many as we caught.

My buddy that caught the big fish had never been bass fishing before, neither had his girlfriend. They were thrilled. Neither could use a baitcast reel so I thought they did really well with a zebco and spinning reel. I need a pair of spinning reels with light braid.

Have always heard that more current TX lake bass records were landed with Zebco 202's or 33's than all the Shimanos or Abu-Garcias or whatever.

Beautiful day to be fishing today!

Would love to hear the story of the grand-daddy snake.

The one that spooked me was two coves to the northwest of the damn and was swimming back to the lily pads from deeper water.

Today I'm fighting a massive sun burn because I got out there and realized that I left my sunscreen in the smaller trout fishing tackle box that in my garage.

I took Ayon12 with me to Gibbons yesterday about 3:30. It was slow until about 5:00 when we found a bunch of fish. I had the first fish but he somehow ended up with the most and biggest from the back of my boat. We ended up with about 16 between the two of us and we missed several others. Here are the two biggest:

So I need some advice.

About the only time I can go out on Gibbons is between 9am to 3pm. Am I wasting my time? Granted, I am happy to just be out on the water with nothing else to think about, but it sure would be nice to catch a fish here and there.

I personally fish most of the time out there in the mornings and I've caught a lot of fish after 9. You just have to keep at it until you find the fish. Good luck.

Great photo, but ... cry....thought that was mine and BC's secret spot!!!

Yea, there may not be very many unknown 'secret spots' left on Gibbons. I know seeing Bass Colonel's great videos that he has already found 'bout all my other ones on his own as he until lately had never much fished on the same days that I fish it.

Secret spots on Gibbons for me may seem to work for a little while, but they only work for me a season or two. The spots, lures and fishing styles all just change from one year to the next. That makes it challenging, but fun. I also always crack up when someone posts their advice on the TFF 'bout where/how to fish on Gibbons and then say they haven't been on it since when it 1st opened up and is so 'easy a lake'.

i was in one of those boats in the picture above. It was crazy how many fish were pulled from there from all the traffic. The bite would be good for everyone then die off but an hour later it was on again. Everyone in our club tournament caught plenty of fish. It was a fun day. Cant wait to get back out there in the future.

I've fished Gibbons Creek hard for three years now and all three years have been almost completely different from the others. This year it is really different with the low lake levels. A lot of my "secret" spots are just not fishable anymore. I'm still having some good days on the lake but I also have a lot of dissapointing days. This dang wind hasnt helped either?? I'm headed to Caddo this weekend!

Got on the water at 9am today. Looked around a few places and saw fish on the sonar, but couldn't get them to bite. Finally came back to the first spot I went to around 12:30 and had 6 good bites, with 2 in the boat at about 1 1/2 pounds each. Was using a new reel that I just got and hadn't set the drag. The 1 1/2 pounders reeled in easy. Then I had one hit it and it took line like the drag was all the way open. It jumped and spit the hood right back at me. I think they could hear the expletive on the other side of the lake.

By 1:15, the wind picked up and was really bad. The bite just stopped as soon as the wind picked up. I was impressed with my iPilot though. It did a decent job holding my position in the strong winds.

Here's one of the ones I managed to boat.

ive been fishing out at gibbons once a week lately only in the afternoon. is that lake better in the morning? i love the place but usually we just fish in the lilly pads and catch between 3 of us we catch around 5 all on spinnerbaits. we dont ever go in the creeks just because of all the stumps

I have more luck late afternoon. I also fish main lake. It seems to me the later you can stay the better it gets.

I certainly prefer Gibbons very early morning and very late evening on bluebird days as I struggle fishing shallow with the sun on the water. So with the drought and few overcast skys lately, it has been usually slooooooow fishing deeper or in the cover much of the midday.

Bite was on Sunday evening. Fish were really set up on timber in 5-7 feet. Caught this 8-0 beast to top off the day. Went out tonight but only got in a few minutes of fishing before the rain/lightning chased me off. The lake is so low you almost need a ladder to get from the dock down to your boat??

Was there a bass club tournament at Gibbons this morning? Saw a half dozen boats lined up in the water at 6am and then they all took off at the same time.

Unfortunately, my motor went kaput in the middle of the lake first thing this morning and I barely made it back to the ramp. So no fishing for me frown

Wind was tough out there today! All the boats were huddled together on the points trying to stay out of the wind.

Yes the Conroe Bass Club held a measly 5 boat tournament there this past weekend. We caught a few fish but i don't think that it was worth the sunburns or the beatings we took in the wind.

Went out this morning. I haven't been in a month. Looks like the water has dropped at least a foot.

Weather, wind, and fishing were nice from 6 to 8:30. Caught 10-15 from 0.5-3 lbs on spinnerbaits, frogs, and rattlesnakes. They'r near stumps in 5-10ft and in the pads. After the sun came up and the wind starting blowing, the bite turned off. Boat traffic was picking up too.

Overall, good day on the water with my dad.

Hit the water just after 6am this morning. No bites early at the stumps, so we moved to the lilly pads and had several bites, but nothing in the boat. Moved back to the stumps around 9 and got two 2 lb'ers in the boat.

When the sun came out, we tried out the new "shade" system. It held up pretty well in the wind, but made the ipilot work overtime to hold the spot.

When the umbrella wasn't on, the pvc pipe made a great rod holder while tying on a new hook.

Actually, we put it up at about 11:30 just to test it out and the wind was starting to gust pretty good. Took it back down after about 20 minutes because it was acting like a sail and making the TM work overtime.

Cloud cover was actually pretty good until about noon.

hey yall, i live on lake conroe so i fish it most of the time, but with this weekend going to be as wild as it is im thinking about trying gibbons, never been on the lake before is the problem. are the fish still in 10' stumps, and the pads? not looking or wanting anyones hotspot, just kind of wondering what types of structure and depth the fish are holding in right now. any help so that i am not going completely blind is appreciated, if any info for conroe is needed, its just a pm away

Thanks

I fished gibbons earlier this week and only found small sized bass biting and they were shallow. Surface Water temp was almost 90 at the intake and the outlet area was unbearable with the high humidity and I was wishing for any breeze. Don't know anymore that gibbons is any safer than Conroe for dodging the ski boats..... My neck was getting tired watching out after bc's accident.

Fishing was really slow this morning. Only caught a couplereally small fish, both on a spinnerbait. The water has drop a few inches since last saturday. Boat traffic was picking up by mid morning. At least the wind wasn't blowing.

fcag, nice setup. I am just wondering if there is gusty wind, would it be dangerous to have the umbrella open? Will that destabilize the boat?

I tried the big umbrella mounted on the boat idea twice. Never provided shade for long, but i did find they tend to hold a bass or two nearby setting on the lake bottoms sfter some winds had sent them flying.

Thanks to Lou r Pitcher for taking me out today! We ended up with about 17 fish between the two of us before leaving a little after noon. Nothing gigantic but we did catch a lot of very solid fish.

I'm planning on heading out there this evening for some cats. Water is down 3 feet according to the park ranger. Really wanting to get up in gibbons creek (the creek itself) but I think the stumps are too bad out there. Went out 7/1 and the stumps were thick. I wish we'd get some rain though. That would sure be nice.

Was nice out at Gibbons yesterday morning with a nice breeze. Found some LMB at the used-to-be submerged island over in front of the plant that ranged from 1.5-2.5lbs, and then found a couple of bigger ones on the north side of the intake around 10ft. and about 600 yards off the little point. Other than that, couldn't locate them anywhere else. Saw a lot of nice sized catfish on the surface on that north side of the intake too. Wish I would have brought a setup for them as they looked pretty active. Everything died down around 10am though when the weather started getting hotter and the breeze turned into 10mph wind.

I'll have to check out that intake next time I'm out there. I went in the evening, which just isnt working in this heat. We caught 2 cats on thursday at the discharge. I have been wanting to go up gibbons creek but the stumps are just too thick to risk it.

Went out this morning and it was tough. Didn't catch any and only had one good bite. Didn't take long until the wind picked up. I tried some lilly pads and several deep humps/ridges. Frog, T-rig, C-rig, jig, spinnerbait, nothing worked.

Water was 87F and a little lower then a couple weeks ago.

Caught this little mess of fish out at Gibbons today. Took awhile to locate the fish but finally found them over off the first point to the right of the boat ramp in 13-14 feet of water on some stumps. Got into a great spot and started catching them on CJ's punch bait. After we ran out of punch bait (I only had 2 half full containers) we went back to the dock to catch some shad and perch for cut bait, then we started heading back to our spot and somebody had filled our spot after watching us reel in several fish. So we called it a day and headed out with 10 keepers. Nothing of great size. Good eaters though. Also a great day to be on the lake.

If the lake keeps dropping, you should be able to hold position by reaching bottom just about anywhere out in the middle.

I'd say it is about 4 feet low. No grass anywhere that I've seen. Lily pads are starting to die off. Just came in from a morning of fishing...very slow! Water temp was 80 degrees.

When you go to/ from the boat ramp launch, it may be easier to beach the boat if you didn't bring a stepladder to access the high boatdock. The. 1 foot difference is about a 5 foot step now.

A few days ago it was 4 foot low, I was told they plan to keep it at that level, so I do not expect it to keep dropping. They have been buying water from Lake Limestone and pumping it out of the Navasota river.

For the most part it was a tough day, alot of small fish were caught. The big bass was a 22.5" caught i believe around the dam area first thing that morning. The winning person caught his fish down there as well off one of those points. He said it was slow until the north wind picked started blowing against those southshore points.

Power plant intake arm area is becoming dangerous especialy having a very shallow hidden sandy point extending from its northern shoreline eastward well out into the main lake body.....otherwise main lake body remains good to run as long as you stay south of buoys and stumps in northern lake half and away from all shoreline.

The west side of the main lake definitely has a shallow shelf extending way out into the main lake. Much of it is very shallow now.

Lake is now 4.3 foot low, close to rocks and shore on west and south end of the lake, be careful for submerged rocks never before close to the surface. East and North side of lake, watch for stumps that used to be 4 foot below the surface and are now 1 inch below surface. Launch no problem, just be careful, structure can be in lots of places barely under water that you used to not have to worry about.

I'm going to Gibbons in the morning-haven't been on the lake in several months. I've got room for one backseater in my little 15 ft boat if anybody wants to go. I'll leave College Station about 6:15 to be on water first light and probably be back in town by noon. I realize bow season opens, but if one of you Aggies(or anyone else) wants to give it a shot let me know in the next few hours. Bob

Wanting to get a feel for how everyone else is doing at gibbons. I want to know if Im doing something wrong, for me it has been spotty. I was catching bigger fish two weeks ago, now smaller fish and in less numbers. I am fishing 2-8 feet of water, mostly on Cbs, flukes, and TR worms. Any report appreciated.

Sunday was decent for me. My biggest was 6# and what was interesting about this fish was there was fishing line coming out of its vent. I pulled about 3 more inches out and the line is attached to a bait in its stomach. I caught about 15 total and it was nice having the lake almost to myself. Only half a dozen boats on the water, only 3 of us stayed after it started raining. Water temp was 72 on the surface.

Nice carp, they will fool you at first. I went out Sunday afternoon. Lots of shad coming up as it was getting close to dark. I watched a few 3 pounders come completely out of the water eating them.

Did ya'll watch the FLW College Fishing Regional Tournament on TV this weekend. It was at Lake Somerville. They caught some huge fish and SFA had a 26lb bag on the final day. The tournament was held back in mid Oct.

You might check on Somerville before you go, Rocky Creek is abaout the only ramp working, and they closed Sunday 27th until Dec 5th for a deer hunt, so the ramp is not available till then

I put it at Rocky Creek Saturday morning with no problem. Sommerville was extremely slow for me. I fished it from 7 to 1. The water temp was 63-65. I fished shallow brush, deep brush, shallow rock, deep rock and only managed one fish. I thought the bite would have been better.

How was Gibbons this weekend?

The 60 degree and falling Gibbons' lake waters are balling up the quarter sized shad schools all over the lake and quite a few shad are dying off. The bass have been gorging and the few ones caught are stuffed full. Bass are understandably ignoring most any/all my baits.

Floating dying shad are attracting hundreds of birds of many species that are continuously picking the injured shad from the surface. 21 Pelicans, 2 bald eagles,, kildee, seagulls, blue herons, egrets, the usual turkey vultures and a halfdozen more species that I can't name have migrated to the lake. I have never seen many of them out there. Hard to fish being impressed by large flocks of feeding birds circling about.

The lake level didn't come up much with the rain, and is at an all time low and the boat ramp is not far from having to be closed. A paint mark has been made on the ramp dock wood even with where the concrete boat ramp abruptly drops off many inches and the edge was about even with the motor prop at launch/loading.

I have only a 19 foot, so a very much longer boat or a pontoon trailer would surely be at risk soon . My side imaging shows it would be a challenge to pull a single axle trailer back up on top of the concrete ramp if the axle/tires fully dropped off.

(4.4 day after xmas)

Grrrr....
I was thinking about going out there in a few weeks. Hopefully, more rain.

I drove by this evening. It was my first time to see the lake first time since early March.

All I can say is "wow". Where I used to catch is now dry land. Park ranger said 5.5 feet low. It is a different lake now from last time I saw it. I really wonder how good this Spring will be. If not good then that is not a good sign for the lake.

Today, couldn't pull my loaded boat out of the water. realmad

It wasn't that I backed too far or off the end of the ramp. It was that large mounds of barely submerged sand have been pushed up on the concrete and as I was backing, I had to back left side of the trailer over a shallow submerged mound to get deep enough water to load the boat on the trailer. It is also a much steeper ramp near the end of the ramp.

When I attempted to pull out, there was just too high sand mounded in front of my tires and with the boat weight, could only spin the truck tires on the wet concrete ramp. Had to be helped and towed out by another truck pulling my truck and boat/trailer.

Folks, be careful with the ramp out there!

I was there on Saturday for the first time in a couple of weeks. The lake level may have come up a little lately and I was still able to get in and out of the lake. The fishing was real slow for me.
