The 60 degree and falling Gibbons' lake waters are balling up the quarter sized shad schools all over the lake and quite a few shad are dying off. The bass have been gorging and the few ones caught are stuffed full. Bass are understandably ignoring most any/all my baits.
Floating dying shad are attracting hundreds of birds of many species that are continuously picking the injured shad from the surface. 21 Pelicans, 2 bald eagles,, kildee, seagulls, blue herons, egrets, the usual turkey vultures and a halfdozen more species that I can't name have migrated to the lake. I have never seen many of them out there. Hard to fish being impressed by large flocks of feeding birds circling about.
The lake level didn't come up much with the rain, and is at an all time low and the boat ramp is not far from having to be closed. A paint mark has been made on the ramp dock wood even with where the concrete boat ramp abruptly drops off many inches and the edge was about even with the motor prop at launch/loading.
I have only a 19 foot, so a very much longer boat or a pontoon trailer would surely be at risk soon . My side imaging shows it would be a challenge to pull a single axle trailer back up on top of the concrete ramp if the axle/tires fully dropped off.
