4 buddies and I took the flat bottom out Saturday morning. Had to call it a day about 12:30 due to work, but ended up with 92 whites, 3 channels and 2 gasper goos. They're definitely up there and biting.

We went up to where we had to get out and pull the boat a ways, then kept going up past the next bend. If you look closely in the water though, they're everywhere. Every little depression, rock or stump in the river bottom is holding some fish.

awesome. I know where ur talking about. I've been that far only once this year in my father in laws jon boat. unfortunately mine is too heavy for that. But as long as theyre still up there then I can catch em coming and going, before the first rapid just not as concentrated. But thats good enough for me and the boys. Thx for the info.

The fish were biting today got my limit in 2.5 hours and my 4 yr old caught 8. Heck of a day. I've got the photos to prove it but it is quite the PITA to put them up, so only if demanded. smile

Take 2484 out of Salado, head west, about 9 miles or so out you'll see a road shoot straight off a curve. Has a street sign that says Gravel Crossing. It's about an hour paddle up to where the good fishing is.

Is it possible to walk to the rapids from gravel crossing? Or is it possible to reach the area walking from the bridge on 195?

Alright, thanks. You guys got me worried, I'll be there from sunrise to about 6 so no big deal. When I get there do I go downstream or upstream towards the lake for the good fishing. I'm not trying to steal any honey holes, I just want to put a friend of mine on some bass.

It just depends.............if there biting get in the current........or u can pull up close to the bank and throw down bank..........some what parallel with the bank. A lot of ppl use marabou jigs road runners all kinds of spinners.............I normally use rattle traps..........the only thing is all the hooks..........and they jump every where...so. u would head up stream away from the lake.......pass the first big bend then try up from that

Once it rains u got to give the river 2 to 3 days before the river clears up..........and then they will turn back on...............best time to go is right before a front..............with the low pressure....................

The one time years back we made it up near the gravel crossing via boat the lake was full. We came across a solid mess of crappie and didn't try to go any further. Wasn't sure how much further up we could have went anyway.

BBC I made it from the lake the first week of march. should still be doable.
Couple spots you'll need to go slow and watch for stumps but that is pretty soon after you get into the river but then deepens out and is smooth sailing all the way to the first rapid

I went last weekend and fishing with minnos was key.... I did not have any, so I threw a rat trap and many diff lead head jigs. Managed 10 with artificials. Guys next to me were pulling them in every cast with live bait.

Waters down to where u can walk on the old road or crossing at gravel crossing. There is water on both sides to run a canoe or Jon boat. The crossing has drainage pipes though it with some current. There are a couple deeper holes the fish seem to be holding to. But water is way down compared to last year.
