Ok, I returned to Grapevine today and HAULED big time. Here are the results-
Carp-11
Mirrors-1(included in total carp)
Buffs-0
Catfish-0

Bait results-
Vanilla maize-0 carp(hooked a few but didn't fish it for long)
Sweetcorn maize(can of corn drained into my maize)- 4
Fruit Punch Maize- 3 including Mirror
Orange maize- 2 carp including PB common
Strawberry Boilie and strawberry maize-2 commons(didn't have this on that long)

Ok, I had an amazing session. I banked 11 carp! Erick prebaited the swim on Thursday and Friday then we fished it yesterday and I fished it today. Yesterday was completely different, the fish were extremely active today(and they fought hard, my arm is still burning from that last 20!). We prebaited it with everything we had- Maize, boilies, method, range cubes, everything. I just got out there and started throwing baits out, and I did great.
Here are the pics I have. I didn't get pics on a few. Thanks to John, the english guy I met out here today, for taking pics of the first 8 carp and giving me so much info and stuff about carping. Thank you so much, you helped me break my common PB and establish my PB mirror.

Fish number 1-12lbs 40z

This is when John left. Here are the fish I caught and had to use the tripod on self pics.

Fish 10- 16lbs 4oz fully scaled mirror! The swinger didn't move at all, it just went slack and I set the hook. It fought for over 10 minutes back and forth until I saw it and completely freaked out.


Fish 11. While I was releasing my 1st mirror, I called Ryan and told him about the fish. The call sounded like this-
"hey Ryan" "hey" "I just released it" "oh, cool, I texted the pic to Erick" "Nice" BEEEEEEEEEEEEP "I gotta go, fish on!"
I set the hook and 100 yards of line melted off the reel. The fish tore off to the dock. I battled it finally gaining line and never saw it until I had it right by the bank and yelled "That's a 20!!!"
I left the net on my landing mat so I gently grabbed the fish and carried it to the mat. AMAZING FISH! 21lb 11oz- My new all around PB!

AMAZING session. This swim is the best! The big change today? No fixed leads. They weren't hooklink shy, hook shy, and didn't have to be set on, they felt the resistance from the lead and spit the hook. Once I let the leads free slide my hooking ratio went up to 1 fish every 25-30 minutes. I got out there around 12:30 and left at 6. I never saw a single buffalo all day, which is the most common fish at Grapevine. Great trip. Bait stuff-

Method- Quick and old fashioned oats, grits, 1 can of sweet and 1 can creamed corn, 2 packs of some off brand drink mix, 2 packs of kool-aid, vanilla extract, and something Erick snuck in it(What was that?)

Bait-

Orange maize- Orange Emergen-c pack(fizzy) and salt
Strawberry maize-kool aid pack and salt
fruit punch maize- Ryan's recipe. I had it on from yesterday

awesome, that may the first mirror reported out of Grapevine! I use a oats mix very similar minus the drink flavorings. Glad you got on them

And beautiful mirror. Those aren't common in the vine, either. Then again, they're not really common anywhere lol.

There's been a few mirrors out of GV.

Donny had one years ago, back when he didn't even know what a mirror was. ( He thought it was sick, and couldn't understand why I was so excited about him catching it lol. )

There's also a lot of muddlers in there, and some fish with Koi bloodlines, with almost opalescent scales. Rin-Gin I think someone called them, though I might be thinking of something else. I've had a few of those out there too.

But that's the biggest and nicest mirror I've seen from GV I think. Awesome fish.

Yeah, that gives me hope about GV carp, never heard of a mirror before out of there and I've never even come close to a 20. In fact, my biggest GV carp is only about 13 lbs. I wasn't sure if there were even 20's still left in there.

There was about a 23lber caught from the cliffs a year or three back. One of the guys from the Barge caught it, though I can't for the life of me think of his name right now. Tracy's buddy I think.

I've caught them up to about 18lbs from the cliffs myself, and I've seen a few 20lb commons landed there before as well, back during some fish ins.

I've got 3 20's from gv, all from scott's landing area

I still haven't fished that spot lol. The only south shore spot I've ever fished is Meadowmere.

I want to try Silver Lake soon, over on the back side behind the marina. I might hit that for a few hours tomorrow. Or go back and haul again.

Think I should submit the mirror or the 21-11 to US carp pro?
