We have a Hunter ceiling fan that the light in the middle will not turn off. It will not turn off from the light switch on the wall or from the remote. The fan works fine from both and since the fan turns on/off and cycles through the speeds I don't think the remote is the issue. The light switch in the wall is the one symptom that is throwing me for a loop since it would seem to indicate that the light has constant power from the breaker but we always use the remote to control it and maybe I'm confused about the wall switch ever really working.

Any ideas? Have flipped the breaker to reset and still the same issue. I have also scoured the internet and can't find anything.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Are there 2 light switches? 1 fan 1 light or all in one.

Probably the relay in the on the fan.

I'm not getting it?

We have a Hampton Bay fan with remote - once a year the receiver in the fan goes haywire and we have to call the support number and they send a new receiver for free. I know it's the receiver 'cause we have 2 remotes for it.

So - for you, call them here and they'll probably honor the warranty. If they won't - threaten to go to Home Depot & buy a Hampton Bay......

are you sure your flipping the right switch, and not the porch light ? the switch should kill all power to the fan and lights. Also are you sure you dont have a second switch, a two way switch, wheras the fan and light can be turned on or off from 2 seperate locations?

Thanks for all the replies. The fan is in the living room and there are only three switches on the wall (one vertical and 2 horizontal). One turns on some recessed lighting and the other two probably should work the fan in some way but they do not seem to be doing anything. I turned on the fan and played with both switches and the fan and light did nothing. I guess I was trying to say that we seem to remember the switches on the way controlling the fan but we always use the remote and it still works the fan but not the lights.

Unscrew the light blubs and use your lamps.

Better yet would be to take the light fixture off and just use your lamps.

I have two hunter ceiling fans and have the same issue with the remotes not working the lights. Not real sure why you're wall switch isnt turning them off though.

Did this just start happening, or could you ever turn off the light?

I'm guessing it is wired wrong and has never worked in the first place.

You don't have pull cords on that fan? All mine have separate cords for light and fan. I use the wall switch to operate mine, with a separate switch for light and fan. I would imagine that, if the cord operated switch were turned off, you couldn't activate it with either the remote or the wall switch. Might you have a little hole there that accomodates a switch? One of my pull chains broke off once and, in the passage of time, I forgot it was ever there. Just guessing.

Ok, looks like my memory cells weren't switched on. The light is on, and won't turn off. Still, there should be a manual switch for the light on that fan, whether or not a cord presently dangles fom it.

After a bit of investigating I have learned the following:
1. I have a switch on the wall that has no wire running to it.
2. Someone asked why don't we use the pull chain. Because there is no pull chain, plus the ceiling is over 10' high so I don't really want to install one.
3. Also this is a relatively new problem since the light was able to be controlled from the remote.

After finding the correct part numbers and researching the internet it seems that this is a fairly common issue with Hunter ceiling fan remote receivers. One note of caution, with Hunter ceiling fans (and others I would assume) the light assembley and cover can be removed and upgraded. I did not know this, so it was difficult to find the actual model number of the fan until I took off the upgraded light fixture.

If anyone else has this problem, I ordered the actual replacement from Hunter for something like $60 but you can get a replacement from Home Depot or Lowe's for $30. The $60 model includes wiring harnesses on it that snap in but you will have to do the wiring yourself on the $30 model since it is for multiple fans. On my fan, I started with a 7 wire wiring harness and only had 5 wires to play with on the $30 receiver so it was no going to be easy. Probably could have figured it out but other projects need worked.
