Went Monday afternoon, caught 10 channel cats, biggest 4 - 5 lb range! Fat thick bodied cat. The other 9 were right at 12 inches!

Also caught 3 softshell turtles, one of them huge!

Chicken liver on the bottom tight lined, is awesome for cats!

4 MORE TODAY! 1 AT 2.5 LBS/1 AT 1.5 LBS/2 12-inchers! Chicken liver, bite on between 11 am and 2 pm.

Talked to one of the guys who works in the catering company in the Haggar bldg, and he said around sunrise the water was boiling with fish on the surface! Most likely sandies, but may have been black bass with a hybrid thrown in here and there!

Sunday, 10:30 AM-2:30 PM - 9 channel cats in the 12 inch range; 1 Blue Cat in the 16 inch range.

One hybrid striper-19 inches long!

One black bass 11 inches long.

Bait used: Chicken Liver!

Fished "tight lined" on bottom, from the shore.

3 rather large soft shelled turtles also landed and released.

The hybrid was delicious on the grill yesterday evening, by the way as was the blue cat!

Gorgeous day with some pretty good fishing! Wind was not a factor, except that it kept me quite cool the whole time as it was coming off the water!

The 19 inch hybrid is something else! I have heard of people catching off of liver, good deal.

By tight line are you fishing w/ a pole, hook, then weight or a Carolina rig?

Any reports on the carp in there? I've heard a lot of mixed info. Can anyone verify Carp at 20lbs+ ?

Mark, probably Buff at 20+, not carp, as I imagine you're already thinking.

But you never know!

If they're in Reading, and they are, could be in this area too.

That was indeed me! There are some HUGE carp there as well as buffalo, drum and for the first 30 minutes or so of the time i was there a LARGE school of longnose gar was swarming the area immediately in front of me!

I was several decent sized, not huge, but decent, bright orange carp fly out of the water throughout the day, they just seem to leap into teh air for no apparent reason other than it must be as much fun to them as it looks to us!!

Remember, this is the Elm Fork of the Trinity, and like any river, it is home to some humongous carp!!

Thanks Rudy!

Sounds like the trick would be to seperate the occassional big fish from the multitudes of under-10lbers. Well...at least for the other guys lol, I'd just toss out some corn and catch whatever came by! Lol.

So...Snowman rigs maybe?

I went to haggar at sunrise this morning. I caught a little sand bass on a topwater and a small lmb on a rooster tail. I have more proof that a rooster tail will catch anything as I caught one gar and had another on, before I lost him.

If you're talking about the pond north of 635 near Luna, that you can see from 635,
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...029182&om=1 --
be vewy, vewy caweful -- I ran into a cottonmouth on the north bank. It had a head as wide as my fist. My guardian angel was watching out for me that day, because, when I saw it, it was a foot away from my leg with its head drawn back. That was two years ago, but it's probably still there.

But I see (after I did a search on that map for Haggar) that you're talking about that BIG pond south of there. I've fished that once or twice from the bank on the east side with no luck. It's part of the Trinity River, I think.

It's NOT part of the Trinity River, it IS the Trinity, at least the Elm Fork of it!

Very good fishing hole!

Hey all. I went to the spot just to the South of the Hagger building this morning. Had a few bites and saw a bunch of Gar but no luck in landing anything. If you have any tips on sweet spots and bait etc I would love to hear them.

Hi to the guy I met today, sorry I forgot your login name was it "Lonestarcarper"? anyway nice to meet you and thanks for the company and offer of Lewisville trip.

Not sure where you were fishing! If it was SOUTH of the Haggar bldg, you were fishing a vacant lot! Last time I checked, it's pretty hard to catch a fish in a field of Johnson Grass!

The water is immediately BEHIND the Haggar bldg, which would make it WEST of the Haggar Bldg!

Would love to see Gar rolling around in Johnson grass, that would be a sight not soon forgotten!

Not sure what you fished for, if anything, so would be hard to tell you what bait to use!

I fished there Saturday morning, from 10 AM to 12 Noon, and only caught 3 channel cats, and one softshell turtle. I was using chicken liver tight lined on the bottom, IMMEDIEATELY BEHIND, thus WEST, of the Haggar bldg.

Well thanks for the friendly advice, glad to see you'll help the green horns!

I'll get a GPS so I can feel a little more secure around the helpful folks out there.

As for the "GO FIND YOUR OWN" what are forums for but to SHARE.....

A I am such a dummy I hope the waste of time from your post did not distract you from ridiculing others.

Welcome to the TFF, Nigs. This is an outstanding site to learn more about fishing. I will gaurantee you that if you are a bank fisherman, ol' Lovfldx, Rudy, will be the one to learn from. That part about GO FIND YOUR OWN, well, that only means go fishing some more, because in the 5 years he's been on this forum, he has helped many a folk catch many a fish!!

I intend to go back, I was just getting a dig in. Hey I never said I had a sense of direction, just a love for the sport.

I checked him out through the other postings so I know lovfldx knows his stuff but my free time is short and a little advice was all I sought.

Ah well back to fishing with dynamite!

Don't worry about the tone in some of these responses (lot of ego's) As you well know, some of the info is subjective, some good, some questionable, etc...Here's part of the fun - call Parks and Recreation, Irving and ask them what place can or can I not fish around the Campeon trail park, Las Colinas area, etc... and then explore, experiment and then you too can 'post' an insightful response. Good Luck and have fun!

Don't worry about the "Go find your own" quote. I've been on this site for more than 5 years and so has lovfldx (Rudy). I have fished with him a few times and learned many of spots from him here on the forum, as has literally hundreds of other bak fisherman.

I seem to remember the source of the quote was the result of him posting about his success at one of his spots and posting the details of where it was. It is a spot many of us have fished and had a cordial relationship with the security at this place. Some yahoo lurker from the forum showed up there one night and raised a scene with security that ended up ruining access for everyone. This led him to be a little more careful about posting spots. Also, as Jerry said, he encourages everyone to get out and fish and to try spots that most people overlook. He catches quality fish from many a spot that the rest of us would overlook.

Keep an eye out for any of his posts because he still shares a ton of information. He is considered the metroplex (and beyond) bank fishing guru by most of us and he is a really helpful guy.

Rudy, please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong about the "Go find your own".

ONCE AGAIN, A TEMPEST IN A TEAPOT!!!!!!

HOLY MOLEY! What has happened to America's sense of humor????????? SHEESH!!!

This is one of the reasons i don't post near as much as i used to! I just get tired of all the ill feelings my dry sense of humor generates, and then the whole thing DEGENERATES into something ridiculous like this!

EVEN WHEN I THROW IN A FEW "LOL'S" INDICATING THAT VIRTUALLY THE WHOLE POST IS BASICALLY TONGUE IN CHEEK!!!

I feel sorry for some you! you guys need to get serious about restoring your ability to chuckle once in awhile!!!!

But basically nothing i posted in there is false! The water IS West of the building, there is a vacant lot south of the building, it does have some Johnson grass growing in parts of it, and I have NEVER seen gar in Johnson grass!!! I will swear to all of that on as big a stack of bibles as you wanna pile up!

Now the other part: YOU DID NOT SPECIFY, NIGS, WHAT TYPE OF FISH YOU WERE GOING AFTER, SO RECOMMENDING A SPECIFIC BAIT WOULD BE HARD UNLESS WE KNEW WHAT YOU ARE GOING AFTER.

For bass, sandies and other game fish, i would start with a rooster tail and then work into the tackle box from there.

For channel and blue cats, chicken liver tightlined on bottom is unbeatable!!!

For the giant flatheads that live there too, live yellow bass(if that is a legal bait), shad, cut, dead or alive, and live bluegills will do ya.

for carp and buffalo, ask Lone Star Carper, and Starless Dragon,as i am basically clueless once you get past Wheaties balls molded in Big Red Soda, lol!

the gar will hit ANYTHING whenever the mood strikes them!

For the dandy crappie that will soon be patrolling the edge of the rocks on the shoreline looking for the massive balls of shad already showing up, tube jigs and live minnows should put a few in the creel!

GO FIND YOUR OWN!

Rudy

Good! Now that we got all this silliness out of the way, let's work on getting together to go do some fishing!

American and Welsh, eh? Most Interesting!

Welcome to the TFF, and i am serious about hooking up to do some fishing!
