Lake Lewisville Fishing Report - January 2, 2011

Richardson, Katherine, and Bruce were my first trip of the new year. It was a balmy 19 degrees when I left the house on Sunday morning and warmed up to 24 by the time I got to the lake. Started the morning off with a frozen pee hole on the Merc. I cleared that up and picked the group up right on time. Despite the cold temp. it was a beautiful morning and the fish started biting righ away. We located some active fish, anchored up and started catching. Katherine had the hot hand at the first spot and put the boys to shame. She landed quite a few eating size blues along with her personal best that weighed close to 13 lbs. She was pretty excited to catch the big fish and quickly started rubbbing it in to the fellas. After some quick photos we released the fish. I rebaited that rod and put it right back in the same spot. Not 2 minutes later the same rod goes down again with a 12 pounder. I got the fish in the boat and see Richardson bowing down and Bruce waving a white flag in the air. The boys got their turn with Bruce landing one that weighed 12 lbs and Ricardson landing one that went 10 lbs (both released). Totals for the trip were 32 blues that weighed just under 150 lbs. The 28 keepers filled up 4 gallon bags with fresh blue cat fillets. All fish were caught on fresh gizzard shad with Dead Red Blood Spray from Team Catfish. We also got to try out my new Team Catfish Thundercat rods I got for Christmas from my Mother-in-Law. Here are a few pictures from Sunday's trip.

Lake Lewisville Fishing Report - January 5, 2011

Chris Sr., Chris Jr. and their good friend Marshall spent a great day of catching Wednesday on Lewisville. The weather was great and the fish were biting. They booked a full-day combo trip to target both trophy blue cats and eating size fish with the hopes of catching plenty for a fish fry and the chance at catching a trophy class fish or two as well. Chris and Chris fished with me back in the spring having a great time catching a mixed bag of blues, channel cats, hybrids and sandbass. This time they tried their hand at chasing the winter time blues and really enjoyed their time on the water. The morning bite started out a bit on the slow side with each spot giving up a couple of fish before having to more. The fish just were there, they just weren't biting yet. By lunch time, they turned on and the guys started filling the box and catching some bigger fish as well. Chris Jr. had the big fish of the day with his new personal best of 26 lbs (released). Chris Sr. set his new PB with a a trophy blue that was close to the 12 lb mark (released). Marshall's personal best came a bit later with a solid keeper that was just under 10 lbs. Totals for the day's trip were 30 blue cats and 2 channel cats for 130 lbs. The 30 keepers made 4 gallon bags of fillets. All fish were caught on fresh gizzard shad and skip jack with Dead Red Blood Spray. We fished the bigger baits on 8/0 Double Action circle hooks and the smaller baits on the 5/0 size. We caught quite a few fish on the new Thundercat Rods this time. So far I'm really impressed with the action and quality of these rods. Here are a few photos from Wednesday's trip.

Lake Lewisville Fishing Report - 1/08/11

I got to spend a few hours out fishing with the entire family on Saturday. I figured there was no way to get them out today with the weather forecast for today. I had no desire to throw for bait so we used some buffalo and shad sides with Dead Red that I put away for a rainy day. It was a bit slow out there and probably could have done a bit better with some fresh bait. We did get some nice fish and more than enough eaters for dinner last night. Final count was 6 box fish from 2 to 5 lbs. We also caught and released three that weighed 16, 12 and 10 lbs. Somehow I didn't get a pic of the 10 pounder. Taking the day off today relax. It sure would be tempting to go out and fish in the snow a bit later though! Here are some pictures from yesterday.
