sam sam, I think 5 is max on a pole but not sure. A trotline is 50 max, juglines are 5, throwlines are 5. Poles may be classified as throwlines but not sure about that. I fish drop shots with up to 3 at times for blues.

You're allowed to have 100 total hooks in the water. The regulations(http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/publications/annual/fish/legal_devices/) don't give a limit to the number of hooks used on a "pole and line" so you could put all 100 hooks on the same rod/reel. Rod/Reel aren't the same as a throw line.

"Life is a matter of luck and the odds of success are in no way enhanced by extreme caution." - Erich Topp, German U-boat Commander, 1943.

When in doubt, set the hook.

Freshwater trotlines are 50 hooks, spaced no closer than 3ft. You can have no more than 100 hooks combined on all lines out at a time. Look at the TP&W regulations under "Legal Freshwater and Saltwater Devices and Restrictions for Fish". Hate for Pat or Eddie to catch you with more.
