TPWD will stock the park with trout this Tuesday, the 11th. This will be the first time in over fifteen years for me to fish the park for trout. I'm really excited because this time I'm taking my wife and my folks are going as well. I can't remember the last time I fished with my folks and this will be the first time my wife will be with us.
My mom doesn't like to fish, but just wanted to spend some time with us. I can't wait and I suggest everybody to attempt to fish the park with kids because the fish are easy to catch and the trout sure do taste great.

Sounds like fun...what do you plan on using for bait and which area would be best??

If you are familiar with the park they used to release the trout by an outdoor pavilion next to a playground area. I don't know the name of the place I just remember my dad taking me there as a kid. The back area of the zoo is visible and there are usually a lot of fishermen around.
I will simply use powerbait and some small lures, but the powerbait is almost a sure thing and that's all I want for my wife.

Well we had a blast yesterday, but the weather was brutally cold. My pregnant wife stayed tough and caught a few trout and my dad caught his limit extremely fast. The only downfall is how people are not sportsman like with their fishing methods. Still had a blast watching my wife bring them in and I can't wait to go back next month.

I used to take my son to the trout stocking here in Kerrville back in the day, he's all grown up now. Probably been about 12-13 years since we have done this. I remember cleaning ice off the rod guides one time it was so cold. Good times!

I know right? What happened to the sport of it? I saw people who set the hook and got the fish in their buckets within 30 seconds, then get their limit and leave... I was there Tuesday and fly fished and caught 4, but i missed a ton of trout and a ton got unhooked. Some of the bait anglers looked like they'd never seen a fly rod before laugh . It was a ton of fun and the fight on a light fly rod is amazing. I'll be going back soon. Good luck to everyone.

sorry to be a partypooper but, I suggest you dont go tonyguitarguy. I went today for a few hours (fly fishing, and spinning) didn't get a bite. Me and some other fisherman didnt even see trout. Tried at the iron bridge, and in the lower stretches..nothin. I did see a ton of big bass though

They will release another batch of trout on Feb. 9, so try your luck then. The downfall at Brack is if you don't go the day of, or the next day your chances of catching are slim to none. Too many fisherman trying to get their limit, so try Millers Pond because they bite everyday regardless of when they stocked them. Except on the day they stock, I went yesterday and only missed a few. TPWD stocked them too quickly and they didn't bite all day.

Really? confused I heard millers pond get overcrowded and the trout get eaten by birds? I'd love to go but It's very far from my house.

Yea i thought about waiting till next month. Guess i will due to the weather also. Ive also heard that millers pond has tons of birds that took a grab at the fish before fishers could.

I actually went to Miller's pond the day of the stocking about 1:00 pm...I t wasn't overcrowded, there was plenty of bankspace and mostly all the fisherman there were waiting patiently. I didn't get off to fish, just observed from my car. I was there for about 30 min. and only saw one person hookup with a very very small trout.
I didn't see any birds either. all fisherman were using bait, nobody casting lures.

Brack has the same problem with birds as Millers Pond. Those birds will always find a way to eat regardless of location. Brack is a little more lure friendly than Millers Pond, but powerbait is the key at both locations.

they should open a free hunting season on the ducks at brackenridge! There were so many loud crazy ducks Tuesday that a fisherman caught one while casting his lure. i think they are overpopulating and it is very annoying. If i worked for tpwd i would offer a reward for the ducks.
