it is very shallow,(especially the south end) but an excellent lake for kayaking, and fishing.

I grew up fishing that lake, and still make it out there every once in a while on the yak.

Details, man, details. Where do you launch from? What kind of structure does it have? What do look for? What kinda bait/lurs do you use?
It's CPR only, can't hurt to share.

details?

I launch on the grand prairie side of the lake (still in Dallas). There is a small park just north of the 303 bridge.

Bass:

There are a good deal of weeds on the southwest banks. There is riprap around the runway (and on the west side of the runway, cattails mixed with riprap) and the dam itself. There is a lot of timber in the creeks (full south end)

Whites:

Under the bridge and along the dam are good (this lake has large white bass, BTW). Up the creeks (Mountain and Fish on the south end, and Cottonwood on the west) in the spring. There is a sandbar in the middle of the dam where it makes a turn, excellent year around for whites.

Crappie:
Bridge, and cattails all over the lake. (and up the creeks in the spring).

Other notes:

By best largemouth from the lake is about 6 lbs, best white close to 3, and best crappie at 3. 23lb freshwater drum.

Depths:

Everything south of the bridge is 2' deep (don't get out, the silt/mud is 6') except for a couple spots near the golf course, and the creeks themselves.

this slowly increases to 15' the closer you get to the dam with a few spots at the dam at 20'.

Yes, there is an aircraft in the south end, I caught a crappie off it once, but nothing more.

I've taken a creek almost to I20 before, cool trip, lots of fish up there the right time of the year.

Anything else? when is the organized trip? Also, PM me for massive white bass info for this winter.

I'm very interested in fishing this lake for LMB this spring. One other question, how safe is it to leave your vehicle where you launch from? I don't live but maybe 20 minutes away but besides driving past on the highway, I know nothing of the area around the lake.

better than it was 5 years ago, but not great.

I've never had a problem there, but I wouldn't be surprised if someone did.

What does Yota know that he's not telling? wink

I've got a friend that just bought a home near by, we've been talking about checking this place out. Sounds like a decent place for a CPR session. Anyone wants to put a plan together let me know.

Well...

I don't make my living on that body of water, so nothing really to keep close to vest.

We all know how often timing is of the essence. As long as there is no hot water in the discharge canal and nothing being released from Joe Pool (and you got the cajones for it)try pulling plugs off the dam a day or two after this arctic front settles in.

Virtually every baitfish in that lake will be stacked like cordwood due to the overall limited water depth available.

The gamefish will be right in there with them. smile
