Not sure exactly what your going for but when I was in Japan they would use half and half of soy sauce and sugar and marinate pork and chicken then grill it. Has an awesome flavor. Also spent a lot of time with guys from Guam and Hawaii while I was stationed in Iraq. They would throw pineapple in it and a mixture of pepper seeds to spice it up. Awesome.
