I like the balsa wood ones but what stopper do you guys like better. I used the plastic ball that you slid on since it is the easiest for me to do when my hands are shaking because of the cold. I like the plastic ones you thread between the four holes since it stays in place most of the time but it's a lot harder to set up. I know there are the thread ones too but haven't used them yet.
What do you guys prefer?

The thread stops seem to pass through the guides better IMO.

i just cut about 10 inches of 12-15 lb mono and lay it side by side to my line make a loop on the heavy line and make three over hand knots including the main line and cinch tight .then i just trim off the line leaving about 1/8 inch on both sides of the knot . stays on tight but can be adjusted for depth
P.B. Carp ....29 lbs .... P.B. Buffalo 34.4

I've lost so many slip corks recently so its hard to remember what I liked. The y/g WM slip corks worked....but I lost then.
For creeks - Try Dura-Foam Floats 2 1/2" from academy. I take the spring out and punch the "pencil" through the foam so I can set the depth I want to achieve. Its not a slip cork when you run the line through the foam but...
They "fly" great on long windy creek casts. That's why I like them I reckon.
You'll need a small weight abobe that jig too seeing how its a big cork.

The thread stops seem to pass through the guides better IMO. helps in casting, pull them tight and trim the excess. Stay with a float thats small. During the winter the fish seem to hit very light and your jig should also be light for a slower drop.

I've been using a Mr. Wally one, and it was really good for casting with it's weighted bottom. But last year I tried a "Thill" and I like it too. I use 15 or 20# braid and haven't lost a setup yet with a mono leader that breaks when hung. I glue the bottom bead in place on the bobber.

BigMack - Are you connecting your jig to that snap swivel on your slip cork rig?

BigMack - Are you connecting your jig to that snap swivel on your slip cork rig? -LP I didn't the past few years, I just tied on a 12" leader to the swivel with no clasp and tied hook/jig to it. This year I'm going with a swivel & clasp with a pre-made leader. I learned that if you don't have enough weight below the bobber that it will have problems pulling through. Especially with 1/32oz jigs that I like to use in the spring. The swivel helps pull the line on through smoothly.

What's the purpose of the spring at the bottom of that thill float? BLING, I think. It's something to do with hooking your line to it I think. You know how I am, 1st thing you do is glance at instructions then throw them away. Hey, Tom is used to getting hyjacked on here.

Be careful of the bobbers with weights on them. Many times when fishing a jig n' bobber, the crappie will take the jig and just unweight it, instead of taking it under. If you're using a weighted bobber, you won't see the bite, as the bobber won't lay over on it's side.

What's the purpose of the spring at the bottom of that thill float? It's for rigging it in a fixed position.
