Ok I can make a trip to Turner quicker than I can to Broken Bow, so I want to try it out. I am gonna take my fly rod as well as my spinning gear for back up. Any suggestions as to flys to take as well as bait and lures to try.
Thanks

Is that your final answer? Have some of that and some salmon eggs, have a Tarponfly secret weapon fly to try as well, hopefully can catch some for some Turkey day trout

Prince nymphs will work most of the time wooly bugers do well both with bead heads. for spinning cant go wrong with power bait or bright rooster tails best of luck!

I would go just a little farther north and check out the Chickasaw National Recreation Area. It is way cleaner than the Turner Falls area, and the water is crystal clear. No trouts to get in the way of catching carp, drum, 'gills, bass, and did I say carp?
Got my PB carp from a creek it this place.

Well we went to Turner Falls today, ask the wife if she wanted to try for crappie or trout, trout won, we got there about 2 o'clock and started fishing second cast caught my first one. Wind was up so took our spinning reels instead of the fly rods. Shortly after my wife caught her first. Fished for 3 hours and caught probably 30 fish, all were caught on powerbait and panther martins. Kept our 10. Will def be going back soon with my fly rod to catch some on the fly. Here is one on the pools loaded with trout. 90% of the trout we caught were in the 10-11 inch range. But as you can see by my first there were also some smaller ones caught as well.

They usually put some browns in as well. Did you see any?

the biggest fish we saw was laying on the bottom and looked like about a 14-16 inch brown, but he wasn't having anything we offered or anything a fly fisherman was throwing. Wife caught one that was about 6 or 7 inches but released as we tried to keep only 10 or better unless we deep hooked them.

what did you use and when do they release trout there? The best thing to use is corn, you will catch almost every cast. They usually release once it gets cold as the trout need cold water. We went in November and had a blast.

I can't really tell from the photo but are those parr marks on the fish or are they just kind of wavy from being on ice?

sorry for the clarification but whats best to use fly-wise
We didn't use a fly as I was just learning how to cast and the wind was up, so I couldn't have thrown it if my life depended on it. There was a guy that was using a fly and was throwing an egg pattern, looked like a piece of corn on there.

Was really nice up there, we went twice and there were only 3 or 4 people in the whole park that were fishing. And if you look at the pics there were TONS of trout all up and down from the falls to the first low water crossing. Not sure if there were any down below that but with all of the ones up stream from there figured why bother.
My wife also caught about a 10-12 inch small mouth while we were there also.

and which is better? beavers bend or turner falls Beaver's Bend is a year round trout fishery. Turner Falls and the Blue River stock trout in the winter only.

My son did best with egg patterns, copper johns, and caught larger ones on dry flies. It is a great place to go when learning.

Never had any luck at all on the fly at the local ponds, or on my ultrlight gear either. That was why we went to turner, not to far and had a blast.

I had luck with buggers, pheasant tails, theo's bombers(millersflyshop), blue north fork nymphs, and hares ears. Really anything simple under size 10 or 12 works pretty well. At the falls I drift them under an indicator but in ponds that really isn't necessary. Retrieve slowly and keep it off the bottom and you're set. Tapered leaders aren't really necessary, I just fish 4 or 5 feet of straight 8lb mono leader with a foot or two of 4lb fluorocarbon tippet for stockers.

I called the Turner Falls office last week inquiring about their stocking schedule. They said that they may not be stocking this year due to low water levels.

That would make sense. It's really dry up there and it's pretty easy for the creek to get low over there. Sucks for us but we still have the Blue river about the same distance from Dallas.

I saw where the Blue River was getting double stockings this month due to other areas not having enough water. I have never tried the Blue River before, only Broken Bow and Turner Falls. My ten year old is already bugging me to take him fly fishing this month so I guess we will be heading to the Blue River for a change.

So the only site I see about Turner Falls is... http://www.turnerfallspark.com/index.phpand it says the park is closed due to flooding. Is there another place to look?

Yep, Turner Falls is closed. A flood a few weeks ago did a lot damage to the park, washed out roads, etc.
The Blue River would probably be the closest stocked river to Turner Falls.

I called the park a few weeks back and asked them about the trout and was told they would not be stocking this year
