Went to Matagorda this Thursday, but there was a rough early wind from the north, so we looked for some place calm to fish. Someone recommended going up the Colorado for specks, but that was a new concept to me. Who has done this, and at what success?

Also must mention, we tried fishing the river some, drifting with some other boats with limited keeper catches. Threw red/white shrimp tails.

Hook N Line map says it should be a good location. We are going this weekend and hope to confirm. Anyone else have any word?

Probably need to let it settle down after this big rain a bit. If it's clear/green it's good, if it's brown/muddy it's too fresh and trout will be in the bay.

Thanks Pat. Looks like we'll drive there and check the water color/conditions and decide from there. Where would you suggest launching into the river?

There's a public ramp at the Riverbend restaurant, 'bout 1/2 past the end of the bridge. You can run the river down to the inlet, or go north to the intercoastal & turn left follow the river further north toward Selkirk after going through the first lock. If your boat runs shallow, you'll also have access to either East or West Matagorda bay. Watch for oyster reefs through, they're all over the bays
