I am beginning to think that Toyota owns some aftermarket companies. 2 things that I can think of right off the bat that should be on the truck from the factory is a tailgate lock and a bed light.

I guess with the camera's they put in them theft is more common because of the value. I just got a new Ford and was thinking I didn't really need the lock since I wasn't getting a tonneau cover. Guess I better lock it.

Thieves won't take the time to take a hose clamp off if they have to lay down under the truck to get to the clamp screw."

I actually like Redfin's suggestion, foolproof, simple and inexpensive.

Here's a picture of the "easy tailgate lock" hose clamp method. I did not crawl under the truck to tighten the clamp as I further describe to you. Just too old and I hate getting on my knees.

Once you get the end of the hose clamp started back into the worm screw, rotate the screw head around so it's underneath, then get on your back under the truck and tighten it down.

You just ruined some thief's 5-second theft of an expensive truck part. Even the expensive tailgate key locks can be busted by a thief in 2-3 seconds. They are not going to fool with a hose clamp. Less than a $1 fix.

Rest well, Chris.

I have the hose clamp done on my F250 for two reasons, to stop/prevent theft and because I had the tailgate fall off before when trying to shut it
