I really like the style of that boat and it is on my list of potential next purchases. Does the CDC make it feel more stable?

Last two years at the PAA on Conroe a bunch of the judges were hoping they don't draw a pro with a Ranger because it will beat you to death on that lake. Conroe is about as rough as it gets from boatchop and bulkheaded shore line.
Yet some people have Ranger as a good riding boat. Interesting. A lot of it has to do with the driver and if he's willing to slow down. The PAA guys pretty much have three speeds, at the dock, idle in "no wake zones" and wide open.
Ranger is definitely well built and nice to fish out of once you get there. I wouldn't ever call it a good ride.

Well after thursday i believe you will have around 50 people that will state that the new ranger z520 are definately not the best rough water boat! From what I've rode in i'd put it around 4th What happened Thursday ? 20+ mph winds from the north on rayburn during the flw college event. Was really disappointed in how the z520 handled. Was tough to turn, really hugged waves, even with the motor trimmed all the way down it still acted like it wanted to speer waves. Was a VERY wet ride (i know not all 20 of us were bad drivers) I've fished in rough water before and own a 18 ft 8 ranger and i think it even handled better than the new 520s. The yamaha SHO vmax was pretty sweet though. The hole shot with that motor was unreal. Definately reinstated my feelings to own a basscat cougar ftd as my next boat. On a side note i do really appreciate ranger allowing us to use some really awesome boats this week! Wow,, I guess, I will look into a different model...

skeeters are very good, better than the older ones. the I-class are better on ruff water than the zx's.

As has been stated earlier, Ride and Drive in a few Different Brands and see for yourself which you prefer...... Driver Input has a lot to do with the ride, regardless of the brand. I rode in a z520 a couple years back on Fork with Pete Ponds in some rough stuff and I thought the ride was pretty decent.Just my 02.

Champion is the best rough water dry ride.
from a skeeter owner. they just dont fish like a skeeter.
legend is supposed to have a comparable ride to a champ but havent been in an alpha yet.

If you are not familiar with driving a Ranger you will beat yourself in waves. You don't drive a Ranger nose-high like with many other brands. They won't go their fastest nor smoothest that way. Seat time is invaluable.
As for the dreaded "wet ride"....once you're on plane and running 30mph the splash should be to the sides or behind you unless you're spearing waves and then it's not the boat brand's fault.

The one with a good rough water driver.
Whether you think you can or you can't, you are probably right.

I think the Z520 is one of their best ridding boats. I have been in several in some REALLY big water and did not get wet or beat up. I think you may have needed more seat time. I am sure since it was a tournament, you drove it like you stole it.

I've had several gray haired guides tell me that the older Champs 201 and 202's were some of the best riding boats they had ever owned. But the flip side was they were horrible fishing platforms.
