1. In what situations do you use boilies? -whenever the mood strikes me... 2. What is your favorite brand of boilie? -have only ever mainly used home made 3. What are your favorite flavors and when? - Did well on Zatarans and on Strawberry...have also caught on vanilla and oregano 4. What are your favorite sizes and when? - small to medium because they match the sizes of the hooks i currently have.
Extra Credit Question Do you make your own boilies? -yes sometimes If so, please share any information about your experience making them. -I tried using flour, corn meal, flavoring, and egg...boilies will stay fresh for a day or two (anybody know a presevative?)...popups will stay forever.
and - if you make your own and boil them, they sink. If you make your own and microwave them, they float.

I'm still a n00b when it comes to boilies; the only two places I've used them extensively are the cliffs and LBL.
I've done well at LBL on Tutti Frutti from K-1 and caught several at the cliffs (mostly buffs) on Tutti Frutti, Mistral Rosehips, and K-1 pineapple ice cream. The only pond fish I've ever caught on a boilie was actually my first boilie fish and the ONLY carp I've caught at the Secret swim...came on a K-1 pineapple.

Nick, For a preservative, order the "10-Sesh" from Wackerbaits. It's a mixture of Citric Acid, Potassium Sorbate, and Sodium Benzoate. Put a little in your boilie(or maize) water, and a little in your dry mix. Crush it into a powder before use, and DO NOT BREATHE IT!!!

1. In what situations do you use boilies? Lately, I have been fishing with one rod with a boilie or popup. I just purchased some Tres Flores boilies that I am looking forward to trying out. In the past I have been mostly a dough and maize user.
2. What is your favorite brand of boilie? I have had luck with K1 and World Classic
3. What are your favorite flavors and when? Fruiti Tuiti and Scopex. I need to get some banana boilies. I love banana maize and dough, so I really expect boilies would work well for me.
4. What are your favorite sizes and when? 15mm ot 16mm. I could see going to 20mm if fishing in Austin.

1. In what situations do you use boilies? I usually always have at least one rod with boilie on.
2. What is your favorite brand of boilie? I make my own. Very rarely buy from anyone else, although I've tried them all. Never bought a boilie that's outfished my own homemades.
3. What are your favorite flavors and when? Chilli-banana and spice flavors more predominantly in winter. Fruit flavors for summer. Mulberry flavor worked well for me for a while (couple of years) then just seemed to switch off.
4. What are your favorite sizes and when? 14, 18, 20mm, and 14/20mm inverted snowman has worked in the past. Sometimes a couple or three 10mm pop-ups fished over particles.
Extra Credit Question Do you make your own boilies? Yes, always. If so, please share any information about your experience making them. - Make sure you have the right amount of oil so they roll well. - Also, always add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, not the other way around. - I know it's tempting to use easy to find ingredients in the store, but if you look around you can source some great ingredients (like milk proteins etc) from the unlikeliest places (including body-building wholesalers etc.) - Some of the recipes I used in the UK 20 years ago may be ineffective over there, but work like a charm here--and most of them can be found online. - CC Moore's Liquid Bait Preservative is awesome.

Another tip - and it only takes a few minutes: When making boilies, make a glug at the same time. Just add a few mil of your flavor and intense sweetener, and add it to an ounce or two food grade glycerine (you can buy this from CVS or Walgreens) and you can dip or soak your baits so they're "leaky" and attractive as soon as they hit the water.

1. In what situations do you use boilies? Pretty much any situation where I'm bottom fishing and there are fish feeding!! Very often, it's up to the angler to 'make the situation', and pre baiting can pay huge dividends. 2. What is your favorite brand of boilie? Tres Flores - hands down. I've wasted a lot of money over the years, buying "off the shelf" product -- often on 'good tips', and spent too many fishless hours relying on those tips!! Eddie makes everything fresh to order, and we've had some great success by putting our heads together and coming up with some killer baits. 3. What are your favorite flavors and when? Very mixed and varied. CSL has been good, as well as TF.Last winter, spicy ones were good. Right now, I have over 12 different flavours -- and we will be doing something completely different for fall/winter. Why be 'pigeon holed' into buying what you can get -- not what the fish want? 4. What are your favorite sizes and when? After having lots of problems with turtles, we tried some bigger sizes, however - it just took them longer to eat them!! Bigger the bait - bigger the fish isn't always the case, and I've had some great fish on smaller baits. A lot of it is definitely in the presentation, and -- bigger baits - 20mm and up, are definitely more difficult to present. So, from 10mm to 20mm, I'd say 15 -16mm has been good for me. When --- is again definitely down to finding out what the fish want. The only recurring 'when' I can truthfully answer, is -- when the going gets slow after a heavy feeding session, I'll invariably scale down and try smaller baits - and often pick up more fish. Simply put -- from 20mm, to 10mm and - as and when it is needed!!
Extra Credit.
I don't make boilies, as I've got a fine supplier - that goes the extra mile. Any extra credits definitely go to Tres Flores for superb baits/service and helping with 'out of the box' ideas!!

If you make your own baits, not only can you make great bait for half (or less) the price of buying them, you can adjust them according to fishing conditions and trends, use top quality flavors or enhancers, vary the boilie size in the same batch, make pop-ups, bottom baits, and glugs with the same attractor signal, and if you get the mix right your bait can be as effective as any bought order. Also, you get the great satisfaction of catching fish on bait you've created yourself.
