Caught a bunch of stripers from daylight to 8:30am We were right in the middle of the goose Island boat show, man I don't know if I ever wanna do that again. I had a friend & his son that have never been striper fishing. We played in the boatshow/striper chasing game. It was fun, but man some of these people are down right crazy!!! for a minute I thought there was gonna be big trouble when 4-5 of them almost bashed together but some how all was good. We kept 25 for a fishfry. All these fish were caught using 1oz. shad color TNT's casting far &counting to 3 when it hit the water and burning back to the boat. worked well for us.

Nice catch but why is this titled top water? We had a tough day last weekend on Texoma using anything.

Top water action means you used a top water type lurel like a Nitro Pop. The lure floats on top and the fish bust the water when they hit the lure. This is my favorite type of fishing. What you did isn't topwater fishing, but is still fun!! Just FYI. Good catch!!

Thanks y'all
but if they are busting on top, then to me thats topwater! Don't matter to me how I catch them. But I did use"small chug bugs" the day before on the northshore and caught some. I don't get out to the water much only been out 4-5 times, sorry if I misinformed.

have a good one to all!

I am with you Shadetree, if burning a slab accross the top
and it gets bit, that is a top water bite.

Thanks slabnshad & OldCoach,
I love fishing for SB here at home & stripers on Texoma, I just ain't as good as some of these other guys that get up there or on any water more often than I do. I do lurk alot on forums to try and keep up with the patterns as best as one can through the post of all. smile As my screen name says "shadetree" LOL Heck I even caught bait and kept it alive for several hours in my home made bait tank. Made it out of a 10 gallon igloo, bilge pump with air infusion, pond filters & PVC crafted together. Total cost was well under a $100.00 and I had it filled with 7 gallons of distilled water. filtered good but I prolly had to many baits in it(50'ish) I think 30-35 will be a max next time.

I have fished Texoma for years, but never heard of "Goose Island". Can you tell me where it is? Is it one of the islands just outside of Loe's?

I used to camp on that Island as a kid when it had large willows and if the water get low enough you can see the brick reminants of old foundations and such. Used to slay the sand bass all night long with ghost minnows that we would seine right there. Camp there a many a night.

Wow, a less than weekend warrior makes a rare post and finds out he maybe doing it all wrong. smile Well at least I caught some fish. I've been there before & didn't get squat!
Thanks JD, it is a nice hall, but nothing like when we are on your boat! smile

BobC, you've fished Texoma for years and don't know Goose island? And do you mean "Lowe's highport" cause I know about the underwater stumps & shallows over there too! You may want look at a lake map or a good hotmaps chip for GPS cause if you hit it, it will ruin your day & equipment. I'm certainly no expert. I've just studied the maps & my GPS hotmaps premium along with the wealth of information I got from JD Lyle Guide service the few times I've been with him in the past 4-5 years.

MV, I did use saltwater chugbugs the day before but i had the smaller ones tied on and managed a few on the northshore.

FISHZOMBIE,
Thanks, my cooler is my fishbox/rodholder I usually mount it on my bow where its out of the way but can also mount it on the rear deck. My boat is only 17.1 long and is a walkthru-runabout I/O so I have to get creative with my fishing and be able to modify in minutes for tubing or taking the family for a lake cruise. smile smile smile

Tim, I sometimes catch sandbass mid-afternoon to early evening slabbing between the red bowie nearest the land or point but that's directly in the boat traffic lanes! They aren't always there but neither am I smile last year I found them there 3 times!!!

Thanks Flies,
Yeah pond bass, it is! We got a cabin & boatslip and stayed the weekend, friday-monday. You are right about the SB off the docks too, I put a 500watt shop lite on a pole & point it behind my boat and do pretty good on the SB about 9-11pm every nite till the gar come in! I then throw my net for a hand full of shad to catfish. All in all the fishing is pretty good & the cabins are OK.

BobC,
no prob! smile
As I said before, I'm certainly no expert mariner/navigator/fisherman BUT I do work hard for my money as most of us do. So I try learn all i can before every trip to any lake so as to hopefully NOT tear up my equipment & catch fish!!!
