The creek that Les and I fish here in south arlington, is usually a calm, small spring fed creek, with small bass and plenty of sunfish. not today, as it became a dangerous torrent of water. people being rescued, tons of property damage, and to be honest, a big mess!!!

here are some shots of what it usually looks like:

here is what it looked like today!!

This is a good chance to get at all that trash once it dries a little.

all,
I understand wanting rain, but thanks to hours of more than 9" concentrated rain flow, part of my cieling collapsed down from a leak I didn't know I had. Fortunately that can be fixed.

The trouble for those of us who enjoy fishing here is that more construction to the south means more run-off. Water like this will really change a creek loss of bank vegetation as well as larger tress. It's not always good.

Les

Hope not too much damage.

I was pretty impressed with the fire trucks reach. Wonder if I could borrow it to clean my gutters!

Sorry to hear about your roof, good luck with getting it fixed. Hopefully that creek gets back to normal soon. Simply incredible what can happen with 2 days of rain.

It happened in an area of my sunroom's ceiling at a corner near one of my sky lights, and it appears like there might have been some slight leaking at the other one. Luckily it's isolated.
Thanks for your concern.

Les

A buddy showed me a pic of riverside golf course in arlington this AM. The only recognizable part of the course is the Pro shop everything else...the entire course is under atleast 5-10 feet of water. Crazy

There will definitely have been some scouring. A whole new set of creek to learn.

It's amazing.

I grew up playing and fishing in that creek (lived over near Young JH)

I've seen it flood several times over the years, but this is by far the highest I can ever remember seeing it. I've NEVER seen it go over Pleasant Ridge, but I have seen it go over Woodland Park a couple of times.

I wonder what it looked like at the Mayfield crossing, and at Indian Trail? Did all those new McMansions flood out too?

I tried to find some USGS data for Rush Creek. No such luck. I'll guess, based on those low water pictures, that there isn't enough normal flow for them to worry about.

Hope the high water didn't wash away too many of the fishies.

Gummi,
The water msut have receded after russell got back in that area, but I'm fairly certain Mayfiefd got it there too. Indian trail had had tons of water...

Thanks keebranch, just wondering.

I grew up in the Huntwick area, it's pretty surreal to see the areas that I used to play in flooded out like they were.
