Purchased a boat from a forum member 2 months ago but had no truck large enough to tow it to the lake. A month ago I get a Suburban to tow it to the lake but it has no hitch. Two weeks ago I installed a hitch but unable to take the new boat out until today. Get up early this morning to take her for a spin. Get her to Hubbard but the battery is dead. Not even enough juice to trim the motor. Drive back home to Mesquite and get another battery. Back to the lake but get foiled again when I find the battery has juice but not enough to turn the motor over. It's about 9am now and my level of frustration is growing even more now. Drive back home and grab a new battery out the pond boat and drive back down to Hubbard. Motor fires up great and I take her thru her paces. Everything works great but the trolling motor. I get her back at the ramp and loaded on the trailer. I then notice my life jacket is missing. I guess it blew out the boat at some point during the test ride. Well three trips to the boat ramp and a missing life jacket was the price I had to pay today. I'm beaten but not broken. If anyone runs across a yellow and gray life jacket with new tags please let me know. This old dog has no fight left.

LOL some days just seem like that...or I guess in this story 2 months.
Check everything out before you go to the lake. I always do a walk around and make sure my batterys are charged, trolling motor works, lights on the trailer, etc. I have a checklist I go over in my driveway and at the ramp(dont forget the plug). The reason for my checklists...

they wont blow out if you have it on,.. I couldn't agree more. I make my son wear his at all times which makes me wear mines. I guess thru my frustration I let it slip. It's a mistake that will not be repeated again. Reggie

You didn't say what year or motor the boat is but most everything built in the last 15 or 20 years will run down a battery just setting there. The electronics on the motor are always drawing voltage even with the switch off. So if you didn't charge the battery after sitting 2 months I would expect it to be down plus if it is a 150hp or bigger then it takes a larger ampere hour battery to start and operate.

Poor fella. We usually check the battery status before we leave. If there's ANY question, it goes on the charger.
Good luck on better days ahead.

I don't think he has to wear his life jacket when towing his boat to the lake not unless they changed the law again..lol It sound like that's when he lost it.. Sorry for the bad luck but hopefully things will improve

Reggie It would not have blown out of the boat if it were being worn......

Ahhh, the joy of boat ownership!!! And to think we idiots would all probably do it all over again! Thats a fact I've been a bass boat owner continously since 1983 with the exception of 3 months in 2004 when my Old Ranger 373V Bassmaster Classic burned up in a boat shed fire at Rayburn. It took me 3 months to settle with the insurance and find a suitable replacement.

Run the rocks on either side of I-30 from Garland to Rockwall. Free lifejackets everywhere. I've seen some really nice ones but not interested enough to go after them.
