Im in the market for a new towing vehicle, don't have the need for a diesel. I would like some input on these trucks, currently looking at a 5.7L crew max. What likes and dislikes any help would be appreciated

Steveng0143, I recently purchased a Tundra 5.7 and like everything about it. If you have any questions, feel free to call me(214-773-7383). I'm pulling a 19 ft. bass boat with a tandem axle.

They seem to be a bit problematic. Every manufacturer has recalls, but the self-proclaimed "tough truck's" frames will rust out from under them. Granted, that only refers to a few of the earlier production years. We also don't have the same road additives that the northerners do, but i'd prefer to know my frame is solid. Also, the stock rear bumpers are pretty worthless. At the slightest tap, they fold under and damage the rear quarter panels, causing so much more grief than a dented bumper. I've seen this damage on quite a few of them. Look around next time you're walking out of the Wal-Mart parking lot, and i'd bet you'll see what i'm talking about. http://www.tundraheadquarters.com/blog/2009/11/24/toyota-frame-rust-recall-only-partial-fix/

I have an 03 4.7 same year as the recall, my truck has close to 200k on it, pulls anything I put behind it, I was in the elavtor trade and pulled several elavtors that wieghed over 5k without any problems. THe only thing I have had to do is replace the front brakes. I love it and would recomend a tundra to anyone who needs a truck.

my stepdad just purchased one from our vry own kelly denham. he is very happy with it. he moved from a ford powerstroke, into this gas engine. i have ridden in it with the boat attached, and it tows like a champ. Kelly really took great care of him, and got him the best deal in DFW. I know this, because he was about to buy one- until i told him to call Kelly. and Kelly beat the deal, AND had the exact truck sitting on thier lot!! LOL! when they ran the VIN, the truck my pops was about to purchase was actually one of Kelly's inventory... LOL! small world. call Kelly Denham at freeman toyota! 817-320-7319

Also, the stock rear bumpers are pretty worthless. At the slightest tap, they fold under and damage the rear quarter panels, causing so much more grief than a dented bumper. This is a problem with all truck manufacturers these days not just toyota. My brother drives a chevy 2500 Hd and barely backed into a post and smashed bumper into both back pannels. That isnt a toyota thing it is a changing with the times thing. If you want a bumper that will take abuse you need after market. Only drawback I have heard in fuel milleage, and some say it is great, some horible. matt

That's a shame. The bumpers on my '93 and '97 Ford F150s were very stout. The '93 was a tank, too. The '97 was bigger, but the engine was garbage in it. I guess it's hard to find an actual tough truck now.

I have an 08 Tundra Crewmax 4x4 5.7L and love it! Have towed my buddy's 20' pontoon several times to Texoma with no problems! For a gas engine you won't beat it! Avg. 16 mpg while driving and about 10-12 while towing depending on what I am doing. I was a Ford man till I bought this one! Good luck!

I've had a Gen 2 07 Tundra Limited Double Cab 4x4 with the 5.7 for over 3 years now and it is without doubt the best truck I've owned, and I've owned a 2004 Nissan Titan (also a good truck), a 2000 Tundra (Gen 1 4x4), a 2002 HD 2500 Silverado, and many other domestic trucks (including Ford but no Dodges). I highly recommend the Tundra!

I switched from an 01 cummins to an 07 Tundra 5.7 double cab and never looked back. Pulls great without all the noise and smell of the cummins. Good luck on your choice. Jim

I think the tundras are good trucks, but a diesel they are not. That 01 cummins will eat that tundras lunch on milleage and towing.
