if you accidentally drop a grass carp on its head very hard, and it dies after you put it so gently back in the water.. is that a crime? I think it depends on if there is any criminal intent. Since you said accidentally, you might be in the clear. It's hard to kill a carp by dropping it on it's head. Even if you drop it hard and repeatedly. On accident.
What has happed to you does not define who you are-
HOW you react to what happens to you DOES!

Well thanks for the replies; now I'm definitely going back there this weekend. If anybody feels like meeting me there I'll show you the spot I'm talking about. We'll net enough tilapia to last a year.
Actually, you don't even need a net. I just grabbed a few of them right out of the water. Kind of a bummer that there is no challenge involved. Maybe I will have a race to see who can net the most in a hour or who can kill one by throwing a beer at it. lol.

since 2003 the tilapia business has grown from a $1billion industry to a $5billion dollar industry. costs anywhere from $1 to $4 to raise each fish from a fingerling to mature processing size and can be sold for up to $10/lb. this species has been made into to hybrids with all male offspring in the last few years on aquaculture farms and this is a growing marketable species with very white meat and very versatile ways to cook it in fine restaurants. invasive species? perhaps in one aspect. removing intestines may help delete a naturally occurring disease in wild populations. farm raised tilapia do not have this problem to my knowledge. I hope to start a tilapia farm in the near future(anybody with a big checkbook care to invest?haha)the tilapia has become the 4 most consumed seafood species, up from the high teens just 7 years ago. they aren't the bad guys, they just need to be put in the proper environments imo
