If you own a Tacoma and are not happy with the suspension, ride, load carrying, steering, or the way the tranny shifts there are TSBs (technical service bulletins) to help. I have mine in today for all of the above. A soft rear suspension has already cost me one trailer light hook up. The spring TSB is 0305-model year (i.e. 05, 06, 07, etc.) and the trany one is 0703-09. For more info go to the Tacoma World forum. You might have some luck calling Toyota C.S. but I had one dude there tell me that TSBs were not recalls and Toyota would not pay to fix. This is bunk and these items are covered by warranty. I have been fighting the dealer on cutting my pedal but think I am going to lose. It is ridiculous to start with because there have not been any reported problems with floor mat interference on Tacomas.

I think the handling is much better. The ride might be a little stiffer but the truck is now a truck. Tranny shifts better too.

thanks for the post.

Sorry to break different news to you, but I myself had the floor mat- accelerator interference problem on multiple occasions on my '05 Tacoma. It kept getting jammed under/on top of & behind the accelerator unil I just removed it myself long before Toyota or anyone ever mentioned of sudden accereration problems. Reports to help the investigation were later filed so as to help with the Feds/ DOT/Highway Safety efforts and and as well with Toyota and the mods were just completed on my truck this last month. It is a very real issue and could have easily for me proved to have been a serious problem if I had been driving when the mat interfered.

Lou,

Do you have big thick aftermarket mats? My pedal clears my Toyota mats by 2". The pedal is already small enough. I had the work done and they did not cut or replace my pedal even though they put it on the work order. I asked no questions.

Nope, My mats are factory original Toyota mats that came with the truck and say TACOMA in big lettering.

Problem is partly they are held in place only by two plastic hooks that can rotate 360 degrees and releases the mat if they hapen to get aligned up in the same direction. And wearing lug soled work boots contributes to the mat getting pushed around getting in/out of the truck. Once it slips off one or both of the hooks it can unknowningly work its way up to interfere with the accelerator. I never had sudden acceleration, just complications with the mat on top of, or crunched up underneath the pedal and noticed before I shifted out of PARK.

What you described could happen with any vehicle. I have had my Tacoma 1-1/2 years with 30k and have never had a mat come loose no matter what shoe I wear.

Glad you haven't seen problem yet. Hopefully your repair will prevent you from having to go through the headaches.

Don't feel this same problem will ever happen in my other vehicles because the manufacturers there avoided using a design using a pair of mat holding hooks that spin around 360 degrees which can release their grip on thefloor mats. Toyota admitted to me their flawed design and Toyota Corp says now it is costing them tens of thousands of recalls and millions $$$ in repairs. They now have completed some extensive re-work on my accel.pedal and floor mat areas and Toyota also changed my electronics to override the accelerator if the brake is applied... so all but a few of customer's trucks should be fixed now...work was done free charge for me and other affected customers even though it is on trucks some of which are like mine over 5 years old.
