Looks like Amtrak will kindly take me from Dallas to Austin for only $25. Sure, it will take nearly seven hours, but I could tie a few flies.

Throw in a rental car and hotel room - sounds like a pretty cheap trip.

Can anyone point me to fly fishable bank spots around Austin? I'll try to avoid 6th street.

I'm still at the chin-scratching phase of planning. Then again, I'm not working Friday and am tempted to hop on a train.

A colleague of mine took the Amtrak from Okie City to Dallas a few months back and said it was a great way to travel. I think he told me that they even had a spot to plug in a laptop if I remember right.

If I had the time, I'd like to take an old school train trip with SWTRHWMBO to somewhere interesting.

$25? The only question now is, "what are you waiting for?"

Not familiar with Austin, but if you feel like coming to the Round Rock/Georgetown area, I'll guide you on some pristine bass water or pretty hill country streams.

I've tied flies on airplane trips before, it's a pain getting through the TSA point though laugh

Lady Bird Lake is always good. I think the Amtrak station is only a block or two from lake. There are places to rent canoes and kayaks. Good bass fishing.

If you head down today the water maybe a little off color. The news said we had over 3 inches of rain last night. Its been raining at my office since 8 this morning. They say its gonns clear out this afternoon.

Roger that! Wish I had known the price years ago.

TX, if you don't mind sneaking across the northern boarder, these trips look interesting. Might even find some fishing along the way.

Seems I didn't chuse wisely. (Spelling from the US Constitution - today is Constitution Day!)

Next weekend UT has a home game. I figure that is the cause for the hotel rates going up $20 on Saturday and down $40 for Sunday.

Oh well.

I'll look forward to the locals being preoccupied.

They have an October special for TX-OU (or OU-TX, if you prefer) weekend. $45 round trip from OKC to Dallas. I'm gonna have to look for specials getting OUT of Dallas for that weekend.

Went to Union Station yesterday to pick up my tickets. Probably gonna be doing that gotta-go dance until I step on board.

Travelog to follow...

Lady Bird Lake looked nice when i drove into office this morning. It looked off color recently with all the rain but is looking better. According to the weather channel, 60% chance of rain Saturday.

La Quinta sent a confirmation this morning with a weather forecast - rain Sat and Sun. I thought about canceling the trip. Then I remembered the story of the guy at Reel Recovery fishing in the rain.

I'll take my chances, pack a rain jacket and see what happens.

I'll think about a canoe next time. This trip is more about riding the train and checking out the banks.

Rode Amtrak to a football game last week. First time for me. I thought it was a great way to travel. Seats are roomy and recline. There was an ac outlet at my seat. Scenery between Ft Worth and McGregor was enjoyable. Had a decent burger in the dining car with a couple of nice folks. AAA members get 10% discount on normal fares. Only wish it more directly served a couple of out of state places I fish at every year! Have fun, relax and catch a few!
