Hello all,

Trying to get out for the first time in new surroundings. Can anyone provide me a list of local ponds and/or creeks in the Fort Worth area where I can wet a flyline this weekend. I'll be casting from shore. I know there are numorous ponds in the area, but I'm looking for ones that folks have had some experience on and the types of fish being caught. This may sound like a vague question and I aplogize if it is. Doesnt matter to be what types of fish I'll catch. I just wanna get out and flyfish! I'm even willing to travel outside of Ft. Worth as long as it not say over 45 mins.

Which part of the metromess are you in? My list is different for North Fort Worth as opposed to Southwest Fort Worth.

Im in far north Fort Worth next door to Cabelas.

Anyone? Surely there are some bank friendly fly fishing ponds or creeks in north Ft. Worth are that are worth dipping a line. I'm even will to travel south if need be. Not looking for secret spots, just wanna get out of the house. Off to get a license.

I fish mostly the creeks in Southwest Arlington all part of the Rush Creek system. Deer creek which is part of Village Creek also fishes well.

Now if I were focusing on Ft Worth, I would hit Mary's creek in far west side. Also I'd be fishing the Trinity near Bellaire and below Benbrook dam. Up in the north you can try Fossil Creek. Look for bridges where you can get out and park walk in from there. I would try tandem rigs with a miss prissie and a weighted dropper fly.

It's all easy to get to and fish IN, but you mentioned fishing from a bank that limits a lot creeks with high banks.

As for ponds Greenbelt Park in the south has one and there's always parts of Marine Creek Lake of 820 north.

I guess what I'm suggesting is that you drive, burn a little gas, explore,and search for the gems-it'll mean more to you in the long term, beacause you found it.

If you are that far north try the LBJ Grasslands lake. I like Windmill lake the best. It is flyfish only. I like the creeks that go into Benbrook lake, but I avoid them on holiday weekends. I like below the dam at Granbury. I catch fish there consistently.

Burn some gas, find some spots. There are some good place to fish that are not far from home.

I'm not familiar with that part of town. But I am a bit familiar with the geology of the area simply from driving that way so much. And it's a positive! Rocky, shale and limestone so the creeks will be wadable (here in Collin County we run into black dirt quite a bit. Great if you were a 19th century cotton farmer. But deep cut dirtbank creeks are no go for wading)

I'd look for fairly simple public access, safe parking, and at least some water in the channel. Not a lot necessarily. If you do some wade scouting you may come across pools or deeper runs with fish. And smaller water than you might think will hold fish. This creek stomping is light tackle angling and is by no means the only angling available to you. Please just use common safety sense, obey your "radar" and it can be a ton of fun. Might also pop into Cabelas and ak the guys there this sane question while shopping.
