Hi everyone,

I'm just wondering if anyone knows where I can go fish for some crappie in or around San Antonio. I checked the TPWD site and it doesn't seem like they've ever stocked'em anywhere to my knowledge. I've never caught one and would like to try it out.

thanks

I caught quite a few nice ones from the Crane's Mill pier on Canyon Lake, but that is when it was quite a bit cooler back in May and June. I caught a nice 12 incher on Monday on Lake Dunlap while fishing for sunfish but I don't know of any hotspots in the area. I have read some reports of guys doing ok upriver on Canyon Lake as well, especially at night under lights. I hardly ever read reports in this area dealing with crappie. I think the few areas that may produce are kept under wraps. I read tons of reports from other areas and lakes but I don't think the numbers are down here. I think your best bet of getting into them may also be when it cools off a little.

thanks for the reply!

I always see that crappie are slow at calaveras, the last time they were stocked was in 2004(tpwd). I have never seen anyone catch one. Typically everyone fishes for cats/reds/hybirds... never crappie or bass.

I went to cranes mill I think July 4th weekend.. its closed for construction...

That is Cranes Mill Park that is closed for construction.
Turn left at the barricades to go to Cranes Mill Fishing
pier. It is open. I was just there last week. Hope this
helps. Good Day,

If you are looking for crappie, one of the best crappie lakes in Texas (Granger Lake) is an easy 2 hour drive from SA just north of Austin. I have several clients from there that come up here to fish for crappie. The crappie fishing is really good right now. I guided 2 trips last Saturday and caught 80 nice keeper crappie. I just got a cancellation for this weekend if anyone might be interested.
