It's just something you have to take your fish's picture with to prove that you caught it during this tournament. So that people couldn't drag up old pictures and say they caught it during September-May for this.

I don't know,but guess that most people on the fishoff probably don't need the money,why not donate all the winnings to disable Vet's or Kids fishing or something,just a thought.The winners will still have bragging right's,that how it started anyway.
