Man oh man,,went out this morning stopped at the store and joked with the guy at the counter that I was going out to catch a bigger fish than the one I did the other day.He put up those pics on his wall there in the store.Well,I hit the boatramp, got some good baits, and headed out to the dropoff.Right off the bat I hooked up with 5 nice eatin size blues, then one more,a little bigger, about 4 lbs.All of a sudden,my yak's goin sideways..I look back at my poles in the aft rodholders and one of them is bent over. This is a pretty stout pole to,so I know it's a good fish.I start to reel it in,and he takes off,,10,20,30,40 feet of line burns off my reel,,dang! He stops,,and I start, then he takes off again! After he burns off another 40-50 feet of line,,he's worn out I guess,I start reeling him in and he just stays down, not running off,but ain't comming up either. So,I sit there and hold on till he gives a little slack and I reel that in,,and wait,,then a little more. Finally,he gets there to the boat and I put the lip gripper on him.He does a big role, and bends the gripper!I broke my needlenose pliers tring to straighten them back out so I can get this beast on the stringer..I get him on the stringer, finally,,and start heading back to the boatramp to get a weight on him and turn him loose. The 10 mph waves are comming over the side of my yak,and he's pulling me away from the boatramp. So I break out my phone and call a buddy,,he comes out in his redfin and hauls me to the ramp.I was sure glad to get back on solid ground with this guy! http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=30055&id=100000291940680&l=bb703af1f8 Those are some pics..

Well,,I've been doing a "all bait and no weight" kinda rig as of late on two of my poles.A 3/0 gamakatsu circle octupus hook tied on to 12lb eagleclaw line and a 1/4oz splitshot about a foot above the hook.1-1 1/2 inch chunk of cut gizzard and cast out about 25 feet or so in water that's 22' deep. and let it sink slowly to where(this is My therory now,not fact)it settles down and kinda floats on the thermocline. The other pole I use is rigged like a SC rig, just a shorter leader, about 18-24 inches of 14 lb cagun redlighting below a barrel swivel. My main line is 20lb test Berkly big game, and a 3/4oz weight. The area I fish has several points that extend a good ways out into the lake. The shad are all over the shallow tops of these points(some as shallow as 2' 250 yards from shore)and there's alot of fish chashing them all over the place.I find the point that has the most fish around it,move off to the deep side where it "dropsoff" into the lake and put out my baits. If the channels move in,I move over one or two and keep looking for the blues.

Great post ! BIG congrats.
If you see a Dune colored ( almost white) Hobie out there, gimme a shout.. Gonna sneak out next week and soak some shad. I plan on catching one just like that every trip. Reality just doesn't really care what I plan on.
