i know this is gonna be a silly question i can not for the life of me find anyone that sells milk crates or somewhere i can just grab one from. anyone found somewhere to buy them?

ask them for one. you might be pleasantly surprised. walmart sells a crate that is a little larger than milk crate. i like a hand basket better because i can carry it easier with one hand

Wal Mart sells more than one size and more than one design. I bought one with near solid sides and 1" holes in it. I use it in my pick up bed to organize just like a crate in the yak.

I picked up some "flats" for soft drinks that are built like milk crates but a little longer and only 6" tall. The manager at a local 7-11 gave them to me.

i dont have one work has been a bit busy so i havent had a good chance to get out and snag one. the wal-mart one that i have is kinda flimsy. so thats why i want the heavy duty ones. i guess ill just have to run by a gas station and see if they have one. thanks for everyones help by the way

Ask for the store manager at Kroger or Albertsons or any grocery store.
Politely ask if you could purchase just one crate for your kayak.
Sometimes they will tell you that those are returned to the vendor.
But most of the time they will give you one on the spot.

Works best if you're pushing a basket with some groceries in it.
Works even better if your wife is doing the asking.
Just don't get greedy.

The one I bought at The Container Store has illegal use is punnishable by law stamped on it too.Go figure that one out.
