Temple Fork Outfitters New BVK Fly rods http://www.danblanton.com/viewmessage.php?id=144410Many of us have had the opportunity to cast these fly rods at Texoma on the Fly and other events that TFO attended. FWIW, I fully agree with Flip Pallot’s assessment: “Working with Lefty on the design of the BVK Family of rods has taught me all that I never knew about rod design. What has been such a treat for me is bound to become the same for BVK owners! Grab one and see how much trouble you can get into!" Flip Pallot I had the privilege of field testing these fly rods early this year and they are sweet casting rods, very light weight, and strong.

I would find it difficult to compare the BVK to the MiniMag – both being the sweetest casting fly rods I have ever cast.
I call the MiniMag a “utility” fly rod in a complimentary sense – an any where, any time for anything rod. IMO opinion it’s “sweet spot” is a result of TFO’s utilization of their exclusive use of hybrid “S” glass and carbon fiber. The Mini-Mag is my favorite all around fly rod.
I would compare the VBK more to the Axiom in “feel” and castability, but much lighter in tune with the recent popular lightweight “high end” fly rods. Realizing the testing of fly rods is very subjective to individual preferences, after extensive testing the BVK has become one of my all time favorites.

Can't wait to break one. BTW I have been testing some of TFO's new bait and spinning rods designed by Greg Loomis. They are very nice rods that seem to hold up well. I'm switching all my boat rods over to TFO.

I would find it difficult to compare the BVK to the MiniMag – both being the sweetest casting fly rods I have ever cast. In my opinion the Mini Mag is a a very sweet bass rod, it has the butt section that can pull the largest bass out of the weeds. It would also be a fantastic snook mangrove rod, similar to the cult classic, Scott Heliply. Yet the TFO rod will set you back much less. Great for gunning line out, and tossing heavy flies. The BVK, is has the ability to cast 10 feet nicely- 30feet nicely from the tip, 30-60 the mid kicks in, and 60+ the butt section picks up all the slack. I think it is going to be one of the best sellers in the TFO line, once people start casting this rod.

I have the BVK 6wt prototype if anyone local wants to cast it in my backyard. I sent the 8wt prototype back to TFO so Lefty could take it on a trip - will soon have a replacement ...

So, where is the BVK going to sit in relation to the Clouser and Ti-CR rods?

BVK-1 is also a strain of Anthrax obtained from Lefty's finger in the late 50's at Fort Detrick, MD http://www.frankolsonproject.org/Articles/VictimsBlood.html

So, where is the BVK going to sit in relation to the Clouser and Ti-CR rods? My opinion only - I would compare the action of the BVK more to the Axiom but much lighter. I understand new hi-tech bonding agents result in the BVK being a much stronger rod than other "light weight" rods currently on the market.

Axiom action and near-Hydros weight would be a real problem for my savings account balance.
George, I feel that I owe you a visit. Hide the BVK rod, though.
