when I built mine I bought 40 ft of 1" tubing and had some left over, I ended up welding the two "risers" together to give them more support. The only problem I had was backing it up, but i didnt have a long tongue on it

Something like this, maybe a cross brace inbetween for some added support.

if you want a really clean look to the rod box weatherguard makes a conduit carrier that might work, its light wieght too

http://www.weatherguard.com/van_storage_equipment/view_products.php?subcat_id=42

the drawing looks pretty good, I would add a brace on the shelves for added support

That conduit carrier would be pretty slick looking but at over $400 bucks I'm going to have to go w/ my home built one.
Brace on the shelves is a good idea. Thanks.

PVC tubes w/caps? 4" might work & they r pretty cheap for rod holders

Interesting idea if I had removable caps on both ends they could hold two per tube as long as I'm careful removing them. I'll have to compare the weight of PVC that size vs. a sheet and a half of 1/4" plywood. Also have to see if my spinning reels will fit...

Mark,
I recommend you to look at the following website:
http://www.texaskayakfisherman.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=121567&hilit=trailer

They have a lot of ideas on how to built a trailer.

There are lots of good ideas out there. I made my (2) canoe rack freestanding to fit inside my utility trailer. It doubles as a canoe rack in the back yard. Not a great picture, but here it is.

Yall need to come tell my wife. Just leave out the chicken and nuts part. im sure she's be happy to set yall straightrolfmao

Mark , i wouldnt put 2 in one tube they will get stuck together unless you put a divider in the middle. might concider installing them at 45 degrees or vertical and glue on the bottom cap.

pulled many a trailer. make sure you have at least half of the weight in the front of the trailer or it will want to fishtail as you gain speed.

I've got the hitch and the wiring for the car. Payday is next wednesday and I'm going to get the trailer and start retrofitting it that weekend. I'll post up pics as I go.

Currently been put on hold by a lack of room in the garage due to the wife cleaning out all the kids closets in preperation for a garage sale. I expect to be done by the end of november. Right now I've been working on rigging out my new Cobra. I'll have pics of that up soon.

haha, you'd need help lifting it right now. It is full of tackle. Much of it no roll weights I ordered from Chase.

Have you bought yet? I haven't read this whole thing, but there are usually good deals to be had on craigslist for boat trailers.

Got mine in '08 for $100. My only concern with using the marine grade plywood is that IMO it's unnecessary weight. Just buy some low end expanded metal. and weld it across. It's a lot lighter, and probably even cheaper. Our trailer has about $350 total tied up in it. It's been modified since this picture, because we cut off that top branches, but we can still get 6 yaks on it, which is more than I have access to.

I'll see if I can find some pics of the original trailer
