Any fish being caught without down riggers? How's the bite lately?

Fishing has been tough but improving. Lately I have fished strictly with downriggers but guys are having look trolling Deep Diving Crankbaits. Also seeing some luck drifting live bait. The last two times I was out I saw several small schools of hybrids bust the surface.

Buchanan can be hard at times but it is a very good lake. I have been there often and had caught some very nice stripers and whites. I have also left there skunked. There are several outstanding guides on the lake and when I started fishing it I had gone out with them just to get to know the lake. The more you fish a lake the better you will get to know it and thus putting the odds in your favor on catching fish.

one thing about Buchanan is that it is a big lake and can be a little intimidating. I have about 8-10 go to spots and usually can catch fish on any given day. Get you a good topo map and study it. You can eliminate a lot of water and narrow down areas to start searching.

I agree with you Brandon. I have my go to spots and always catch fish but certain times can be tougher than others. Thanks for the info on the bite.

Somedays the fish just don't want to cooporate. Few weekends ago I went out on a Friday afternoon and boated something like 7 keepers and that many unders in about three hours. The next day I fished sun-up to sun-down and caught 5 keepers and 5 unders. When it is tough you just got to work al ittle harder and pay attention to the small details to make the difference.

I think Buchanan is a great lake and like you said it can be tough at times. I have seen a lot of big striper caught there.
