Has anyone used a Chevy Equinox for towing? I see it's rated for 3,500 lbs. I am considering buying a 2006 model.

Agreed about the stopping. Had to borrow my sons Equinox once and I only have a single axle trailer w/ 16'10" boat. I could feel it pushing me when I came to a stop. Didn't worry cause I started breaking early but if I had to make a quick stop I would not feel comfortable.

I can feel my boat pushing behind my truck... does that mean I need a bigger truck... No, i drive a 1 ton. You will, or should feel any trailer you pull pushing when you stop. I think you it will do just fine, that said you just need to do your part and remeber that you have a trailer behind you and drive accordingly, just as I and every other person who pulls a trailer should. Allow longer stopping distance, make wider turns, and if your not gonna drive it like you stole it then stay out of the fast lane. JMHO

Thanks to all. I used to own a truck and I also could feel my boat pushing it. I agree with RedChevy. I think if I keep my distance, allow extra stopping distance, and drive accordingly I should be OK. I will be pulling a 17ft aluminum boat.

step it up to the trailblazer. wife has an equinox, and I bet you wear it out quick if you tow stuff.

The trailblazer is a nice car I have one and I pull a 16 aluminum boat with it, mine is a 2005 v6 4x4 extended version( 3rd row seat), we get about 17 mpg in normal driving and about 15 pulling the boat. The v8 gets better mpg in my model. by going to a trailblazer you will lose around 4 mpg compared to the equinox. trailblazer come with a trailer package too.

I know what a 16ft aluminum boat feels like behind my F150 with a 4.6L V8 and its not what i would consider powerful while towing. Couldnt imaging towing with one of those.

Pretty much is. Its a truck with a car motor in it. It gets the job done but i have no acceleration on the highway while towing a 2000 lbs boat and trailer. And if i have a passenger and three people in the back seat, it will not stay in OD on the highway if i hit even the slightest hill.
Only 231hp and 293 ft lbs of torque.

There is 2 different 4.6L's one is a 2 valve lower horse horsepower than the 3 valve. Depending on the year model when Ford quit offering the v6 as the economy F150 the 2 valve became the entry level engine. We have an 08 E250 service van that has the 2 valve 4.6L and it won't get out of it's own way. I for the life of me don't know why Ford would offer that combination in a heavy duty vehicle. When I ordered the vehicle I gave the tech the choice between one with a 5,4L and no cruise/power option and this one with cruise and full pwer windows mirrors etc as they were the same price. Ironically the 5 other E250's with the 5.4L will run circles around this one.

Yeah mine is the 2v 4.6L. Great motor and great on gas, just not strong enough to push the F150 and with a trailer added, it can be frustrating..

matter of fact I pull my boat down to livingston alot.
set the cruse on 70 & it runs right on down there.
Have not noticed anything abnormal. 17 ft. is all I'd pull though.
But, it runs with no real power problems.
