What is the best brand of air compressor that plugs into the cigarette lighter socket? I would be using it mostly to air tires up in case of a flat. I bought a $19.95 unit at the local Mega-Low Mart and it shelled out pretty quick.

I have a CH (Campbell Hausfeld) that I think I got at Walmart. It was maybe $70 but it's one of the ones that has an internal battery and is rechargable and also will do a jumpstart. Never had a problem with it but I keep it in the house unless I'm going on a trip so the battery won't go bad.

I've never had luck with any of those.

Gas powered in the bed is the best. Never had any luck with any 12v air compressor.

12volt viair compressors are great but a little pricey, and they dont plug into a cig lighter. i had that and a 5 gallon tank when my car was on air. also had a train horn.

You can find them on EBay. I have bought a couple and they work pretty good.

Find one that is a piston driven and it works fine. Usually 20 to 25 dollars with shipping.
I don't use them often enough to make a reliability claim but they are good for airing up low tires.

The ones that use diaphragms are the ones that get pin holes in them and quit working. The piston driven pumps are faster and the only thing you have to worry about is using them so long they get hot and the motor fails. Under normal use that is not a problem.
