I'm totally new to fishing in Texas and it seems like my 5y old daughter likes it a lot after being to BassPro shop kids fishing for 3 times now.
Is there a good place near Dallas that we could go for kids to have fun (it would be catch and release) something like a fish farm would be the best as kids are loosing patience waiting for the fish.
thanks !

if you are looking for a pay place Catfish Corner in Mesquite is a pretty decent place to go, they will catch fish, but you keep all you catch

Not "near" Dallas but TPWD's Athens fish hatchery is a nice day trip. They have kid fishing, a huge aquarium, educational materials/tours, etc. Kids love it! http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/visitorcenters/tffc/

+1 forgot about that place, and I believe if you use their gear it is free to fish

Thank you all for the pointers -- looks like Catfish Corner in Mesquite is going to be a first stop and then it TPWD's (it is just one hour longer to get there and looks like a nice day trip).

For a 5 year old, any local park will do. Small hook and whole kernel corn is all you need to catch as many perch as she wants.

our local park is way over fished. She is getting bored and is scaring other fisherman by trying to cast herself

There is a place called Samuel Farms off of 80 in Mesquite that has 2 ponds and is open Wed - Sun 9 - 5. You may want to check it out also.
