1. When fishing in the Texas Summers when do you prefer to fish ? A: Mornings - usually 7am to noon 2. How do your fishing tactics change? -recently I read that you should use more popups because theres more oxygen near the surface, especially in stagnant hot summer weather. 3. What precautions do you take to fish in the heat? -had a popup canopy that I used but it broke. now my fishing spot has shade. also use the spray sun block but don't rub it in or touch it with my hands.

1. When fishing in the Texas Summers when do you prefer to fish ? C. Nights It's the only time I can really go. Life is busy during the days
2. How do your fishing tactics change? It has been my personal experience that carp bite better at marinas and barges in the summer. I beleive it is due to the huge amounts of shade and cover to help keep them cool. Deep water + shade is a big plus when fishing in the Texas heat
3. What precautions do you take to fish in the heat? Shade, sunscreen, and lots of water with a couple gatoraides in the mix

As this is my first summer in TX - I am only just trying to get used to the triple digit temps we are getting right now -- pheeeeeew!! I don't think TX is much different than anywhere that gets prolonged periods of high temps, and the fish seem to be reacting pretty much as expected. They aren't very active during the heat of the day, and start feeding as the sun is going down. As I can't stay overnight on the lake I'm fishing - I'm not sure whether they feed all night, however they certainly do feed early morning. My favourite time to fish is early morning - but, when facing packing up in the heat of the day, I'm favouring evening sessions - where it is at least a few degrees cooler!! Tactic wise (compared to cooler weather) I put far less free bait out, and concentrate on using 'refined' method/pack mixes. I try and pay more attention to location, and look for spots the fish might be 'hanging' to escape the heat. Although I'll often fish boilies with one rod, I concentrate on using small particle baits - often just one piece of buoyant plastic, with a small hook (6 or 8). My reasoning here is that if the fish are only feeding 'half heartedly', I want to make sure they get it in their mouths as easily as possible. Even though I really concentrate on presentation all the time, at this time of year I make an extra effort to ensure everything is as well presented as it possibly can be. Again - the reasoning is that if the fish are only going to pick the bait up once - I want to make sure I nail them. During cooler periods, when feeding becomes competitive, and there might be multiple fish 'jockeying' for the bait - the ratio of hook ups to pick ups rises dramatically. As for precautions, I always try and find somewhere with a shady retreat, take plenty of liquids to drink - including Gatorade for electrolytes, try and keep my bait as cool as possible, wear a wide brimmed light coloured hat and just stay out of the direct sun. I don't use 'Carp Be Gone'-- sun screen, and am just waiting for the day some bright spark comes up with some 'Carp compatible' stuff --- you know, stuff you will be able to use for a boilie glug -- then slather all over yourself --- dream on

1. When fishing in the Texas Summers when do you prefer to fish ? A: Mornings But if we get a rare summer rainstorm I might fish all day. I love fishing in the summer rains.
2. How do your fishing tactics change? - I like to fish ponds in the summer, easier to find the fish. - If I am fishing a lake I want as deep of water as I can find. - I try to fish before, during or after rainstorms. - I use more natural flavored baits; ie unflavored maize. Not sure why. - Because I am usually fishing a shorter period of time I tend to only chum when I start the session.
3. What precautions do you take to fish in the heat? - Frozen bottles of Gatorade - Shade - Light tee-shirt, shorts, sandals and a hat. - I sometimes accidentally on purpose fall in the swim.

Brid- You could always use surgical gloves to put the sunscreen on. A 10 dollar box of surgical gloves from wal-mart will last for years of fishing. I use them when dealing with stink baits, chicken livers, sunscreen. Keeps my hands clean and the wife doesn't complain. Sure beats getting skin cancer

Yeah I used the spray a couple times and I have to rub it in anyways, It sprays too sporadically for me not to rub it in. It would drive me crazy if I didn't. But that might be just me though. Honestly I wasn't really big on using sunscreen till a couple yrs ago and heck I still don't use them enough. I've always kept the gloves for certain catfish baits, the sunscreen just gives me another reason to have them

1. When fishing in the Texas Summers when do you prefer to fish ? I generally fish whenever I can, but I will try to find shade. It is definitely cooler fishing at night, but it takes me most of the week to recover fishing all night. I try to fish early mornings, but if I'm in a shaded area, for instance under a bridge, I'll continue on through the day.
2. How do your fishing tactics change? They don't, really. I fish where I think the fish are, and prebait whenever I have the chance (which isn't often). In the heat of the day I look for deeper shaded water.
3. What precautions do you take to fish in the heat? Maximize shade, and drink plenty of cool water. I also usually wear breathing, wicking or quick-drying clothing that covers my legs and arms. Wide brimmed hat, polarized sunglasses. I just recently got a buff and some sun gloves which I will wear when in fishing in the sun or with a lot of reflected sunlight from the water.

1. When fishing in the Texas Summers when do you prefer to fish ? I fish at night at marinas. Usually Ray Bob. If I fish during the day its from first light to about 2p.m.
2. How do your fishing tactics change?
I don't really change tactics to much. I try to fish the deepest water I can during the summer.
3.What precautions do you take to fish in the heat?
A cooler with lots of bottled water and some gatorade. Try not to eat a greasy breakfast. Fishing in shade is an absolute must in the Texas heat and even then if there is no breeze my day will be short.

1. Im hard core, I don't go home at 15 or 105, if I got a day to fish its all day.
2. I change species in the summer, gar mostly mixed in with some carp and buffs, while in the winter its crappie
3. Drink water all day long and bring something with electrolytes in it too. I use shade if I can, but I look for fish before shade.
